In Sunil Manchanda’s darkly comedic crime thriller, ‘Miya Biwi Aur Murder,’ the focus is on delivering a murder mystery with a hint of humor. As indicated by the title, the series follows the husband-wife duo, Jayesh, a cop, and Priya, a homemaker with a penchant for crime dramas, as they grapple with a murder that occurs in their home. Amidst a troubled marriage fraught with infidelity, Priya discovers Jayesh’s affair through a dating app called Chinder, leading to unintended consequences when the other man dies in their home. Complicating matters further, their housekeeper Malati (Ashmita Bakshi), with whom Jayesh also had an affair, suffers an accident. With Malati and Varun (Randeep Malik) lying injured in their home, the couple must concoct a plan to remove all traces of the crime scene. However, numerous witnesses and the involvement of Abbas (Rushad Rana), a drug-mafia enforcer on Jayesh’s trail, pose additional challenges. Can they evade danger and save themselves?
The series establishes a lighthearted tone from the outset, making it accessible to a wide audience. While the plot may be somewhat predictable, it injects a refreshing twist into the crime drama genre. The narrative gains momentum following Varun’s demise from a chemical overdose, with each episode unveiling new twists and turns.
Some viewers may find the excessive use of expletives in the dialogue off-putting, as it detracts from the overall viewing experience.
In terms of performances, Rajeev Khandelwal shines as DCP Jayesh Roy, exuding charisma and charm despite the character’s flaws. Manjari Fadnnis impresses with her portrayal of Priya, a woman adept at concealing evidence gleaned from crime shows. Rushad Rana delivers a nuanced performance as Abbas, portraying the drug lord with sophistication and menace.
