Women in Blue (AppleTv) Review :-

Women in Blue requires patience, but it ultimately offers a richly nuanced and compelling story. Set against the backdrop of 1970s Mexico City, this crime drama not only presents a gripping plot but also vividly captures the era’s ultraconservative norms, the status of women, and the pervasive male gaze. The show excels in its meticulous attention to detail, authentically depicting 1970s Mexico through its architecture, transportation, signage, and fashion. Although it starts slowly, Women in Blue picks up after the first two episodes, delivering a highly satisfying payoff.

Set in Mexico City, 1971, the series opens with the city gripped by fear from a serial killer known as the Undresser. As the police struggle to capture the criminal and public unrest grows, the government forms a squad of female police officers to restore confidence and distract the media. Among the 16 women recruited are María (Bárbara Mori), Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana), Valentina (Natalia Téllez), and Gabina (Amorita Rasgado), under the leadership of Octavia (Miguel Rodarte). The squad faces challenges from navigating the male gaze, overcoming biases, and dealing with the conservative views of their superiors. When the police claim to have apprehended the serial killer, the four women conduct their own investigation, uncovering that the real killer is still at large and the police have misled the public to quell their fears.

Women in Blue (AppleTv) Trailor :-

The series occasionally veers into melodrama with its repeated focus on the protagonists’ families. However, it becomes truly compelling when it centers on the main plot. Over ten hour-long episodes, the crime drama takes some time to build momentum, but it becomes engrossing after the third episode. Like Pretty Little Liars, Sex and the City, and The Golden Girls, the series features a group of women who form a strong bond, but the crime element adds a unique twist. The screenplay gives each of the four main characters distinct traits that complement one another, making their strengths, flaws, and interactions engaging. The ensemble cast shines, with most performers delivering standout performances.

Bárbara Mori shines as a housewife disillusioned by her architect husband’s infidelities, recalling her memorable role opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kites. Her portrayal of Maria is both vulnerable and resolute, with Mori skillfully balancing these traits. Natalia Téllez’s Valentina is a stark contrast—dynamic and driven, with a single-minded focus on results. Téllez infuses the character with confidence and energy. Amorita Rasgado plays Gabina, from a family of esteemed police officers. Though beloved by her family, they do not support her decision to join the force. Gabina appears outwardly helpless but is inwardly courageous. Ximena Sariñana’s Ángeles, socially awkward and struggling with personal connections, excels in her professional role. Sariñana delivers a commendable performance, highlighting Ángeles’ competence despite her social difficulties.

Though set in the 1970s, the show tackles themes that remain relevant today, including systemic corruption, gender inequality, police brutality, press suppression, and women’s empowerment. This crime drama adeptly addresses these serious issues, delving into both the personal and professional lives of its characters. With its substantial and engaging narrative, the show captivates viewers with its fresh, original characters who feel very authentic.
