In the era of hustle culture and social media facades, “Tumse Na Ho Payega” kicks off with protagonist Gaurav Shukla (Ishwak Singh) unraveling the dissonance between one’s true self and the persona projected to the world. Gaurav finds himself ousted after inadvertently expressing his discontent with work to his boss, propelling him into a quest to carve out a different trajectory devoid of the rat race. His epiphany leads to the birth of “Maa’s Magic,” a home-cooked food delivery service aimed at weary young professionals tired of dining out. However, Gaurav’s journey isn’t without its complexities, as he grapples with the expectations and pressures imposed by those around him, including his mother Pooja (Aamala Annikeni), her sophisticated friend Anu Aunty (Meghna Malik), and his rival Arjun Kapoor (Karan Jotwani), the epitome of success in their society.
While the younger generation will undoubtedly relate to Abhishek Sinha’s directorial venture, older viewers will find themselves nodding along to many familiar instances. The film addresses the middle class’s apprehensions about venturing into entrepreneurship and the societal pressure to conform to conventional norms. It champions the idea of taking risks to pursue one’s dreams and wresting control of defining success from external influences.
The narrative initially unfolds at a leisurely pace as Gaurav’s world is established and characters introduced, including his loyal friends Hardik Vaghela (Gurpreet Saini) and startup partner Sharad Malhotra, aka Mal (Gaurav Pandey), as well as his former crush Devika (Mahima Makwana), now involved with Arjun. The camaraderie among friends, laced with expletives and colloquial banter, resonates with many viewers, particularly those with childhood companions. The dialogue is both entertaining and relatable, capturing the essence of the characters’ relationships.
While the rapid ascent of Gaurav’s startup and the unwavering support he receives may seem convenient, the essence of the story lies in his journey of self-discovery, fraught with obstacles. The film delivers poignant moments, such as Pummy Aunty’s (Farida Dadi) insightful remark that “our dreams dictate our path.”
Ishwak Singh aptly portrays the transformation of an ordinary corporate worker embarking on a journey of self-realization. Mahina Makwana effortlessly embodies the pragmatic young woman unwilling to settle for anything less than her standards. Gaurav Pandey shines as the candid yet good-hearted friend, while Amala Akkineni and Meghna Malik deliver commendable performances in their respective roles.
The screenplay by Nitesh Tiwari, Nikhil Mehrotra, and Varun Agarwal effectively underscores the importance of following one’s heart in both career and relationships, free from the burden of societal expectations. While the film imparts valuable life lessons, it lacks the X factor in its execution, and its idealization of success, growth, and relationships in the finale may feel slightly overdone. Nonetheless, it remains a worthwhile watch for its inspirational message.
