On its first day at the box office, Ryan Gosling film The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch, is currently being screened in theaters across India.
The action-comedy film The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, hit theaters on Friday. Directed by David Leitch, Ryan takes on the role of stuntman Colt Seavers in the movie. However, it appears that Ryan’s switch from a fur coat to a stunt harness didn’t resonate well with Indian fans, as the film had a lackluster start at the box office, collecting just Rs 50 lakh on its opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
The Fall Guy made its debut at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin in March 2024. According to Deadline, the film earned $3.15 million from Thursday previews in the US, which included $800k from early access screenings on Wednesday, along with ticket sales from 3,200 locations on Thursday.
Ryan’s previous film, Barbie, garnered significant attention and performed exceptionally well at the box office. It collected Rs 5 crore on its opening day in India and went on to mint Rs 43.80 crore during its theatrical run. Globally, it grossed over $1.4 billion.
Zendaya’s Challengers also premiered in theaters last week. According to TOI, the film garnered just Rs 4 lakhs on its opening day, but its release in India was limited.
A portion of the review stated, “David Leitch, a former stunt performer himself known for directing thrilling action movies like Bullet Train and John Wick, along with his team of writers with similar action-packed films in their portfolio, refuse to let the stunt aspect go to waste. Thus, the relationship between Colt and Jody serves as a thin plotline to accommodate all the fighting, car and boat chases, explosions, wrecked vehicles, and hand-to-hand combat scenes.”
