Although “Savi” holds promise as a gripping thriller, it falls short due to its reliance on a clichéd storyline. While the premise appears intriguing, the film’s execution fails to captivate the audience fully. It seems to hover close to its potential without quite reaching it. While the screenplay manages to engage viewers intermittently, certain loopholes leave one questioning the directorial prowess of Abhinay Deo, known for the exceptional “Delhi Belly.” With more attention to detail in the screenplay and performances, “Savi” could have emerged as a standout in the jailbreak genre.

Divya Khossla shoulders the challenging role of Savi with commendable effort, and her dedication shines through in her performance. She remains the central figure throughout the film, although one might have hoped for a broader emotional spectrum from her portrayal. Harshvardhan Rane, essaying the character of Nakul, delivers a satisfactory performance, yet the screenplay’s limitations prevent him from fully showcasing his talent. Nonetheless, the film finds redemption in the presence of Anil Kapoor, whose charisma serves as one of its highlights, infusing the screen with energy and joy in every appearance.

While the jailbreak genre remains relatively unexplored in Bollywood compared to Hollywood, which has produced iconic films like “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Escape from Alcatraz,” and “Midnight Express,” “Savi” had the potential to elevate this genre. However, despite earnest efforts, it falls short of expectations. The actual jailbreak sequence feels more “clever” than “audacious,” lacking the anticipated adrenaline rush. Anil Kapoor’s witty dialogues inject a welcome dose of humor into the thriller. Although “Savi” endeavors to offer a fresh perspective within this genre, it ultimately falls shy of reaching its full potential.
