Easy to watch and full of charm, Prime Video’s Dupahiya is a heartwarming and humorous series that explores the dreams and aspirations of ordinary people. With its uncomplicated storyline and focus on those who yearn for more than just survival, the series offers a lighthearted yet thoughtful take on the struggles of living with little and finding contentment in it.
It’s Roshni’s wedding day, and her one wish is to leave the small town of Dhadakpur behind and move to Mumbai. The perfect opportunity arises when she sets her sights on the brother of the man she was originally supposed to marry, who is planning to move to Mumbai for work in a few months. But there’s a catch—the groom insists on an expensive motorcycle, one far beyond anything the villagers have ever seen.
The real highlight of the series is its characters. They are simple, humble people with everyday dreams, but they’re presented in such dramatic and over-the-top ways that it’s absolutely hilarious. Sparsh Shrivastava’s portrayal of Bhugol is perhaps my favorite—he’s a dreamer aspiring to become a “reeler” and will go to great lengths, doing the most random things, to make it as a social media influencer. Every character adds their own unique flair, making Dhadakpur’s streets irresistibly charming and leaving you hooked from start to finish.
All the actors deliver outstanding performances, with Gajraj Rao and Sparsh Shrivastava standing out. Rao, a familiar face on our screens in recent weeks, is brilliant as the anxious father who simply wants to make his daughter’s dreams come true. Shrivastava, as mentioned earlier, shines as Bhugol, bringing a hilarious and immaturish charm to every scene. Lastly, I truly enjoyed watching Renuka Shahane, who plays a woman who has climbed the ranks of local politics but still has to fight for her place, constantly reminded of her late husband’s legacy. She’s a surprisingly progressive character in this small town and feels like a refreshing change of pace.

The plot’s natural progression makes the series highly engaging, and you can’t help but root for these genuinely good-hearted characters. On top of that, the mystery of who the thief is lingers in the background, constantly keeping you on edge.
