In this French iteration, celebrity judges include renowned French rappers Niska and SCH, alongside Belgian female rap sensation Shay. With the promise of a 100,000 euro grand prize, contestants showcase their vocal prowess, songwriting skills, and rap abilities as they compete against each other for the ultimate title.

The series comprises eight episodes, with the first four episodes already released, each spanning approximately 36 to 43 minutes. Fans eagerly anticipate the next three episodes slated for release on June 16, followed by the grand finale on June 23, 2022. Rhythm and Flow France: Nouvelle Ecole is available in both French and English languages, ensuring a global audience can experience the excitement with subtitles.

In the vein of its American counterpart, the show follows a similar format, with judges venturing to their hometowns in search of fresh talent. SCH, hailing from Marseille, joins forces with fellow artist Jul to scout promising young rappers. Together, they encounter talents like White N, Juss, STLR, Misa, and Dirlo, selecting some to advance to the Paris auditions.

Meanwhile, Niska focuses his efforts on uncovering talent within Paris itself, enlisting musician friends Takiola and Guy2Bezbar as judges. Their search yields promising candidates such as Nebe, Leys, Elyon, and Turtle, all vying for a chance to compete.

Across the border, Shay journeys to Brussels to seek out emerging talent from Belgium. There, she discovers gifted artists like Pirate, Fresh Lepeufra, and Myra, extending invitations for them to join the competition in Paris.

With the lineup set, contestants take the stage in Paris for the first round, performing before a live audience and the discerning eyes of the judges. Only those who can command the stage with impeccable rhythm and flow impress enough to proceed to the next phase. As each rapper steps up, the pressure mounts, and while some thrive under the spotlight, others falter, forgetting their lyrics or failing to connect with the crowd.

By the end of the third episode, only 14 rappers remain, the rest eliminated for lackluster performances. The chosen few advance to the next round, where they are divided into three teams. Tasked with a freestyle cypher over a given track, they must collaborate seamlessly as a unit. Despite the absence of an audience, nerves still get the best of many contestants, leading to mixed results.

Out of this round, only 10 contestants will progress, their fate to be unveiled in the forthcoming episodes.

Final Thoughts: Stream It Or Skip It?

The Netflix series offers a refreshing take on music competition shows. Unlike traditional televised formats, where the audition process can span several weeks filled with melodrama and tearful backstories, Rhythm and Flow France: Nouvelle Ecole streamlines the talent search, dedicating just 1.5 episodes to the selection process without unnecessary delays or suspenseful pauses.

Visually, the series is a feast for the eyes, with vibrant colors and dynamic LED lighting enhancing the overall cinematic experience. The cinematography captures each performance with a cinematic flair, reminiscent of a pivotal scene in a movie where the underdog protagonist rises to the occasion and delivers electrifying verses. While standout talents like Vink, Leys, and Houssbad shine, many contestants demonstrate potential but struggle to overcome the pressures of the competition.

As the series progresses, viewers eagerly anticipate whether the remaining contestants will overcome their nerves and deliver truly remarkable performances. With the next episodes set to premiere on June 16, 2022, audiences can expect to witness the evolution of the competition as it reaches new heights.
