The iconic TVF series, Pitchers, which debuted in 2015, chronicled the journey of four friends who dared to break free from their conventional jobs to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure. Now, after seven years, season 2 resumes their saga, depicting the trials and triumphs of their startup in an unforgiving business landscape. The show’s hallmark lies in its portrayal of startup culture and innovative business strategies, resonating deeply with the aspirations and challenges faced by millennials. The transformation from four founders of a tech startup named “Pragati” to a team of 24 employees is a journey laden with intrigue and promise.

Arunabh Kumar, the creator of the show, reprises his role as the fiery co-founder Yogendra Kumar Pandey, better known as Yogi, in Vaibhav Bundhoo’s directorial venture. Alongside him are Naveen Kasturia as CEO Naveen, the visionary behind the company’s concept, and Abhay Mahajan as marketing head Saurabh Mandal. The absence of their fourth partner, coder Jeetu, played by Jitendra Kumar, looms large, with his departure shrouded in mystery since the opening scene. In the ruthless startup ecosystem of Mumbai, securing investors becomes paramount for their company’s survival and expansion. Will these pitchers navigate the competitive market successfully, or will they face the prospect of failure?

The memorable monologue “Tu beer hai” from the previous season’s pilot episode is replaced with a new one, setting the tone for the season. Abhishek Banerjee delivers a stellar performance as Bhati, advising Naveen to adopt a fresh perspective to overcome challenges. Arunabh and the writing team, comprising Prashant Kumar, Shubham Sharma, and Talha Siddiqui, craft a screenplay that intricately explores the nuances of entrepreneurial life. Across five hour-long episodes, the narrative unfolds with authenticity and relatability, peppered with witty one-liners and motivational quotes. However, a slight trimming of episodes could have enhanced the show’s pacing.

Naveen Kasturia shines once again as Naveen, embodying the role of the determined leader navigating risks and critical decisions. Arunabh’s portrayal of Yogi, though abrasive, serves as the team’s backbone, ensuring tasks are accomplished efficiently. Abhay Mahajan’s Mandal emerges as the heart of the group, fostering unity amidst challenges. Riddhi Dogra delivers a convincing performance as Prachi, the investor in Pragati, while Sikander Kher and Ashish Vidyarthi portray formidable industry titans with aplomb, albeit in limited screen time. Gopal Dutt’s RRR adds a touch of humor with his video blogs.

Bundhoo’s background score deserves commendation for its seamless integration with the narrative, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

After a seven-year hiatus, Pitchers 2 emerges as a worthy sequel, anchored by its authentic characters and exploration of startup trials. It’s a triumphant return for the pitcher’s gang, offering a compelling portrayal of entrepreneurship’s highs and lows. PS. It’s recommended to revisit the first season, given the long gap between releases.
