With its familiar blend of entitled and haughty villagers, a modest office doubling as a home, and a hapless assistant who never quite gets it right, “Panchayat 2” picks up right where its predecessor left off. Fans of the first season will find comfort in the show’s signature elements, as the second season seamlessly continues to depict the daily life of Phulera’s residents. This quaint world remains largely unaffected by the chaos of social media, global issues, or even larger political matters at the state or national level, despite being set in Uttar Pradesh, a state with significant political influence.

The strength of “Panchayat 2” lies in its steadfast commitment to its characters and storylines. The juxtaposition of the highly educated Abhishek against the simplicity of village life, with its meager pay and lack of career prospects, remains a central theme. Jitendra Kumar’s portrayal of Abhishek is authentic and endearing, perfectly complementing the show’s blend of humor and realism.

Raghuvir Yadav shines once again as Pradhanji, while Neena Gupta’s portrayal of Manju Devi gains depth and nuance in this season. The dynamic between the two characters adds an extra layer of charm to the series. Chandan Roy continues to deliver as the lovably quirky sidekick, adding to the show’s ensemble cast.

“Panchayat 2” doesn’t attempt to be overtly comedic or address societal issues like patriarchy or women empowerment. Instead, it thrives in its simplicity, offering viewers a glimpse into rural life in India’s heartland. It serves as a welcome escape from the harsh realities of life, making it a thoroughly enjoyable watch once again.
