The story revolves around Sanya, a chemistry teacher played by Rakul Preet Singh, who finds herself in an unconventional role as the quality control manager at a condom factory. Initially embarrassed by her job description, Sanya gradually embraces her unique position after the company’s owner, Mr. Lamba, played by Satish Kaushik, enlightens her about the importance of her work.

As Sanya navigates the challenges of her job and her personal life, including her budding romance with Rishi (Sumeet Vyas), she faces the dilemma of concealing her profession from her family and in-laws. The ensuing comedy arises from the amusing situations Sanya finds herself in, from fabricating stories about her occupation to navigating the awkwardness of buying condoms with her husband.

While “Chhatriwali” offers a fresh perspective on the importance of sex education and safe sex practices, it does so within the framework of familiar tropes and clichés. The film draws parallels between condom use and preventing unwanted pregnancies, sparking debates and conversations about sexual health and societal norms. Rakul Preet Singh delivers a commendable performance, portraying Sanya’s transformation from embarrassment to empowerment with sincerity and charm.

Supporting performances from actors like Sumeet Vyas, Dolly Ahluwalia, Rajesh Tailang, and Prachee Shah Paandya add depth to the narrative, each bringing their characters to life with conviction. Despite its predictable plot points and occasional lack of creativity in packaging its message, “Chhatriwali” remains a light-hearted and entertaining watch, underscored by its good intentions and positive messaging.

While the film’s soundtrack, featuring Sunidhi Chauhan’s “Special Edition Kudi,” adds some vibrancy to the proceedings, it may not leave a lasting impression compared to other elements of the film. Overall, “Chhatriwali” is a watchable film that succeeds in its mission to destigmatize discussions around safe sex, albeit with room for improvement in its execution and presentation.
