The story begins with Kelsa having already taken significant steps towards embracing her true identity. She has come out to herself and her fiercely supportive mother, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and has undergone the physical transition process with hormone therapy and blockers. Returning to school, where she was once known as a boy, represents a significant milestone in her journey. However, despite her outward confidence, Kelsa grapples with the desire to simply blend in and experience the typical high school life of an “average” girl.
Central to Kelsa’s narrative is her reluctance to engage in experiences like falling in love, fearing the complexities and potential judgment that may arise due to her transgender status.
