Ziddi Ishq (Jiohotstar) Review :-
Hotstar’s series Ziddi Ishq takes the core of Parineeta’s story and stretches it to the extreme, layering in Bollywood-style drama to a simple revenge plot centered on a childhood crush that escalates into something darker. Aaditi Phohankar’s Mehul is portrayed as increasingly unhinged—acting erratically, even slapping her boss in the heat of emotion.
While her drive for revenge and truth is understandable, Mehul comes across as almost frightening rather than sympathetically in love with Shekhar. This isn’t necessarily Phohankar’s fault; the show exaggerates her character to an extreme degree. Her actions often feel disconnected, because the series never convincingly establishes her relationship with Shekhar, making her quest for revenge hard to fully comprehend.
One of the series’ biggest issues is its reliance on over-the-top scenarios that feel unnecessary and clearly designed to pad the runtime. The exaggeration is so blatant that it often provokes eye-rolls—what’s presented as grand and intense frequently amounts to nothing. Numerous situations build up expectations only to deliver little, which not only frustrates but also completely undermines any tension the story might generate.
Overall, the series is utterly ridiculous and often unbelievable. It escalates already dramatic situations to absurd extremes, leaving viewers exasperated. Conflicts are portrayed with such over-the-top flair that they drain the seriousness from the central story, turning moments that should feel tense into something almost comically unhinged. There’s no subtlety, and the show struggles to convey its point clearly or effectively.
In the end, Shekhar’s character becomes little more than a plot device to justify over-the-top action and melodrama, turning what could have been an innocent love-turned-revenge story into a ridiculous farce that is neither thrilling nor entertaining. The biggest issue is that almost nothing in the story feels believable—Mehul, at times, fights villains as if she’s a lifelong super agent.
It feels insulting that the narrative goes to such extreme lengths merely to grab attention, regardless of coherence. A scene like Mehul using a CGI trishool to kill a villain is so absurdly over-the-top that it borders on the surreal, leaving you questioning why you’re even watching.
Ziddi Ishq (Jiohotstar) Trailor :-
Aaditi Pohankar delivers a competent performance as Mehul, though her character comes across as unhinged and rarely shows vulnerability, making it hard to connect with her or feel any real impact. Sumeet Vyas plays the main antagonist, but his role is largely limited to being lecherous. Chattopadhyay portrays the intellectual Shekhar da convincingly, though this has long been his signature type of character, so it feels familiar. The rest of the cast is fine, mostly Bengali actors who appear to live ordinary Bengali lives but speak in Hindi. It adds another layer of disbelief, though understandable since this is a Hindi remake.
Final Thought
Ziddi Ishq is nonsensical, leaving you unsure how far the story will stretch just to grab attention. It’s not only unbelievable, but the characters lack depth and vulnerability, making it hard to care about their journey. And honestly, the less said about that journey, the better!
