‘Aashiqana’ is essentially a Picking up from the previous season’s shocking finale, Joe fakes his own death and commits the ultimate betrayal by murdering his wife, Love. Now assuming the identity of Jonathan Moore, a mild-mannered professor of English Literature, Joe attempts to blend into the vibrant tapestry of London life. But despite his best intentions to reform, fate has other plans in store for him.

The narrative of this ten-part series unfolds with a plethora of twists and turns in each episode, making it a gripping and addictive serial killer drama. Divided into two halves of five episodes each, the story remains faithful to its predecessors by offering insight into the characters through Joe’s introspective narration. As Joe finds himself embroiled in the elite social circles of London after rescuing his co-worker’s girlfriend, Kate (portrayed by Charlotte Ritchie), the plot takes a dark turn when a murder occurs, and Joe finds himself framed for the crime. Thus, unraveling the mystery behind the murder becomes the driving force propelling the narrative forward.

The shift in premise, from protagonist to framed suspect, proves to be a compelling choice, largely due to Badgley’s mesmerizing portrayal of Joe. His performance, particularly during the tense scenes of disposing the first body, captivates the audience, holding their attention firmly. Furthermore, the evolving dynamics between Joe and his neighbor Kate add an intriguing layer to the storyline, showcasing the complexities of their relationship.

Although certain characters like Nadia (played by Amy-Leigh Hickman) and Joe’s enigmatic student with a hidden agenda are introduced briefly, they promise to play significant roles in the unfolding drama. Additionally, Ed Speleers delivers a captivating performance as Rhys Montrose, adding depth to his interactions with Joe. However, some members of the supporting cast fail to leave a lasting impact, serving primarily to heighten the melodrama.

While the series may exhibit some noticeable flaws, such as the implausibility of Joe’s sudden affluence in London and his uncanny ability to evade sticky situations, the riveting whodunit narrative compensates for these shortcomings. ‘You’ season four proves to be an enthralling and unapologetically addictive watch, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating the second half of the season. Until then, speculation runs rife about Joe’s fate, ensuring that the suspense remains palpable until the very end.
