Debutant directors Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha take audiences on an adrenaline-fueled journey through the skies in their film. The setup may be slow and bumpy, but once the plane is hijacked, tension swiftly mounts. Despite a predictable plotline, the movie delivers plenty of thrilling moments and unexpected twists to keep viewers engaged. Sidharth Malhotra skillfully portrays the highs and lows of a determined soldier caught in the crossfire of duty and suspicion.
The story revolves around Arun Katyal, a proud son striving to honor his father’s legacy in the special task force, Yodha. However, after a critical mission failure, he finds himself aboard a hijacked flight under mysterious circumstances. All signs point to him seeking revenge against the system that has stripped him of everything. Is Arun a traitor, or is he a patriot like his father? The action-packed thriller unfolds 15,000 feet above the ground.
Sagar Ambre’s screenplay keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, immersing them in the tense atmosphere aboard the aircraft, where most of the action takes place. While the mid-air stunts provide thrills, the film falls short in originality and often resorts to clichéd plot twists, failing to delve deeply into themes of courage and patriotism.
However, the film is well-edited, maintaining its pace without ever feeling dragged. Subtle humor is woven throughout the narrative, balancing out the weight of heavy-duty dialogues like “I may stay or leave, but the country will remain.”
The music, aside from Ammy Virk and B Praak’s reprised version of ‘Qismat Badal Di,’ is average. However, the background score complements the genre effectively. Following his portrayal of war hero Vikram Batra in Shershaah, Sidharth returns as commando Arun Katyal in Yodha, showcasing his prowess as an action hero. The film largely relies on his performance. Raashii Khanna effortlessly portrays Arun’s love interest, while Disha Patani takes on a pivotal role as an air hostess caught in the midst of the hostage drama. Tanuj Virwani, portraying another commando of the special task force, leaves an impact despite his limited screen time. Sunny Hinduja delivers his role with conviction.
In conclusion, while Yodha delivers thrilling action, it falls short of truly soaring with imagination.
