Welcome to the Family (Netflix) Review :-

Like many other comedy shows and films, Netflix’s Welcome to the Family relies heavily on making us laugh by portraying every character as annoyingly over-the-top. The story follows a vindictive man who leaves his wife and daughter with nothing before suddenly dying, and the lengths these women go to in order to secure their future. Every character is loud, overdramatic, and constantly making one bad decision after another, with no real thought behind it. The show expects us to see this as quirky rather than a character flaw.

Shows like this may have had their charm a few years ago, when laughing at others’ misfortune seemed funny. But in 2025, I’ve had enough of watching bumbling characters make nonsensical decisions and scream at the top of their lungs. These characters feel like they’re living in an alternate reality where no one knows their rights or how to even Google a solution to their problems.

The series certainly features strong performances, and to be fair, I appreciated how much the actors committed to these unlikeable characters. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t do them justice, as much of it doesn’t really make sense. For example, I can’t understand why young children are given free rein over a dead body and trusted to handle adult responsibilities. Also, you’d expect characters to be more shocked, scared, or even disgusted by a dead body in front of them, but it’s treated so casually that it feels unbelievable and off-putting. And then there’s the constant screaming about the dead body, which only adds to the confusion. Honestly, I just don’t get the logic behind it all.

Welcome to the Family is filled with neurotic characters who can’t stop talking over each other. Then there are the nosy characters who somehow think it’s appropriate to barge into other people’s homes in the most absurd ways. In one scene, Hernán Del Riego’s Ricardo sneakily slinks out of a room when no one is looking, and it’s the most over-the-top “slinking” I’ve ever seen on screen. I get that it’s meant to be funny, but it feels incredibly forced. While it’s not the actor’s fault—everyone does well in their roles—it’s the direction that misses the mark here.

Welcome to the Family (Netflix) Trailor :-

The biggest issue I have with Welcome to the Family is its lack of creativity. There’s nothing fresh or unexpected about it. Everything feels tired and cliched, stuck in a loop, desperately trying to squeeze out a few laughs. The nosy neighbor trope, for instance, is so overused that it’ll only make you roll your eyes in frustration. While I appreciate the concept of a stepdaughter and stepmother teaming up to take on a horrible man, it ends up feeling more self-destructive and counterproductive than empowering.

Final Thought

This Netflix series is incredibly frustrating. What really bothered me was how inept everyone is at even the simplest tasks and how they rely on the children to handle a dead body illegally. It feels unimaginative, lacking in logic, and in 2025, it just isn’t as funny as you’d expect.
