Venom: The Last Dance Review :-

What exactly contributed to the success of Venom in 2018, paving the way for not just a sequel but an entire trilogy, is a topic worth exploring. While the premise revolves around an alien Symbiote that bonds with a host to become an anti-hero who ultimately faces Spider-Man, Sony never framed this series as a villain origin story. Instead, it struck loyal Spider-Man fans with a surprising realization: a film from the Spider-Man universe could thrive even without the iconic wall-crawler. Thus, Venom: The Trilogy was born, centered on a buddy romance comedy-drama where the stakes were always high, revolving around the separation of these unconventional foes turned friends.

Now, as we reach the third and final installment, Venom: The Last Dance, featuring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock one last time (if he’s not teasing us about a surprise in Spider-Man 4), this is a movie you can’t miss. Despite its flaws, this world has captivated audiences. In short, The Last Dance stays true to the foundation laid by the previous films. It’s safe, entertaining, ambitious, occasionally nonsensical, but never pointless—ultimately saving the day. As Venom prepares to unleash one last time (we know that’s not quite accurate), let’s dive into the film.

Written by Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel, who also makes her directorial debut with this film, Venom: The Last Dance continues to be a buddy romance thriller where two misfits embark on a road trip to fulfill their duties and dreams. The screenplay excels in its cleverness, remaining crisp and focused solely on the key highlights without straying from its core narrative. The script is so tightly crafted that it doesn’t even take a moment for a soft start; instead, it opens in Klyntar, where Knull is imprisoned by the Symbiotes he created, left to prevent him from wreaking havoc. However, Knull has unleashed the Xenophages—Symbiote hunters—across the multiverse to find Codex, the key to his escape, which is undoubtedly tied to Venom.

In its execution, Venom: The Last Dance is highly engaging, leaving little room for viewers to dwell on its flaws, of which there are several. Credit goes to Kelly for crafting a screenplay and visual translation that keeps the audience occupied, making them less likely to notice the shortcomings—or perhaps even ignore them altogether. Embracing vagueness as a superpower has served this trilogy well, allowing it to tackle audacious plot points, like a storyline involving Area 51 that brushes against real-life conspiracy theories. The idea of a team of Venoms, akin to the Avengers, is delightfully absurd (someone really should develop that further). It’s this randomness that makes Venom: The Last Dance oddly fitting and thoroughly entertaining.

Venom: The Last Dance Trailor :-

The movie makes significant efforts to connect with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, poking fun at Thanos and referencing the Blip, among other things. This establishes a clear pathway for Knull to bridge into the MCU, potentially setting up a confrontation with Spider-Man. However, there are also strong hints that the story of this buddy romance isn’t over yet, with much more to explore.

That said, Venom: The Last Dance sometimes feels overly ambitious, and this becomes evident in certain moments. Knull, despite all the buildup, ends up with minimal involvement, which feels like a letdown. While it’s refreshing to see a Marvel comic-inspired film that doesn’t kill off its villain in one go, simply hyping him up without giving him substantial actions falls short. Additionally, Mrs. Chen appears unexpectedly in Las Vegas, with no explanation for her presence, but she does deliver an entertaining dance sequence that makes up for it.

There’s also a lurking villain not mentioned earlier, but their identity remains undisclosed. Moreover, the film leaves several key recurring characters unresolved, and Mulligan, in particular, deserved a more compelling redemption arc.

Final Thought

Venom: The Last Dance isn’t without its flaws, but its tight narrative keeps you engaged, leaving little room for overanalysis. Knull certainly deserved more development—perhaps we can look forward to that in Spider-Man 4!
