Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black (Netflix) Review :-

In Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, the term “evil” is frequently used, referring to a multi-million dollar beauty company linked to cancer. The characters often embody a comical level of villainy, leading to a sense of repetition that can become tiresome. With excessive swearing and gratuitous sex scenes, the show takes too long to reach its point—each 45-minute episode can feel like a drag.

The series critiques the duplicity of the wealthy and highlights how those in power often wreak havoc on others’ lives. While Mallory and Kimmie’s paths eventually intersect, the buildup is so overt that it becomes cringeworthy. There are important themes about the dangers of prostitution and the struggles of survival, but the show lacks nuance, relentlessly hammering home its messages without subtlety or variation.

The series is packed with intriguing relationships and the internal conflicts among characters create deliciously messy drama. If approached as mindless entertainment, it has plenty to offer. Filled with swearing and chaotic situations, it’s an entertaining, if forgettable, watch. Every episode leaves you second-guessing your own life, as almost everyone seems entangled in secret relationships. It’s so over-the-top that you can’t help but stay tuned for the next ridiculous twist.

As I watched, I couldn’t help but think of these characters as Disney-villain archetypes. I’m not sure if the ultra-wealthy really act this way, but it’s certainly entertaining. While the plot is wild, it doesn’t delve into the nuances of the characters’ behaviors. Given its soap opera vibe, some degree of expectation subversion is expected. The main cast, familiar faces from Perry’s works, does a fantastic job bringing their eccentric characters to life, though the extended cast tends to make less of an impact since they don’t stick around long enough.

Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black (Netflix) Trailor :-

One of my biggest issues with the series is that none of the characters are particularly likeable. As mentioned, they either come off as Disney villains or consistently make poor decisions that lead to even worse outcomes. There’s no happiness to be found, and everyone is always at each other’s throats. I believe a show needs at least one character who has something positive going for them to give viewers someone to root for, but here, the goofiness turns everyone into a villain, making the story increasingly convoluted.

Final Thought

There’s potential in some of the characters and situations in Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, but the series fails to explore the story or its characters in depth, which limits its impact. The excessive swearing and nudity feel unnecessary and don’t contribute to the narrative. Overall, it serves as decent, forgettable entertainment, but nothing beyond that.
