The Old Guard 2 (Netflix) Review :-
The Old Guard wasn’t exactly groundbreaking, which left me puzzled about the need for a sequel. Now that the second installment has arrived on Netflix, I’m still left feeling frustrated and confused about its purpose—especially since just 15 more minutes could have resolved the cliffhanger instead of dragging the story into another film.
This film—clearly the middle chapter of a larger trilogy—spends its 106-minute runtime doing little more than delivering exposition and setting the stage for the “final” installment. We watch Andy regain her footing, learn a bit more about the nature of immortality, and get just enough setup to suggest that the real action is being saved for the inevitable next movie.
It’s neither thrilling nor especially engaging, largely because very little actually happens. The film feels like a cash grab—wrapping up abruptly and leaving you wondering why they didn’t just conclude the franchise here with another over-the-top fight and a dose of exposition. After all, that’s essentially all this movie offers. The characters fail to resonate emotionally and often come off as arrogant, repeatedly making poor decisions that are hard to root for.
Quỳnh returns only to spar with Andy, contributing little beyond a few fight scenes. Meanwhile, the new character Tuah serves solely as an exposition machine, delivering information on cue with no real depth. The so-called “Discord” plotline is painfully transparent and shallow, making its inclusion feel almost laughable. Uma Thurman does what she can, but her character gives her little to work with—she spends most of the film looking mildly irritated and never once feels like a genuine threat.

There’s honestly not much to unpack here because the film offers so little substance. The action is decent, and it’s refreshing to see women take center stage in the fight sequences. But beyond that, the cinematography is forgettable, the music unremarkable, and the overall experience lands firmly in below-average territory. It’s a film that feels unnecessary—lacking both purpose and impact.
Final Thought
The Old Guard 2 feels like an unnecessary cash grab, offering little justification for its existence. The characters lack the depth or charm to carry a third installment, and the story fails to deliver anything truly compelling. It’s hard to understand why this franchise is still being pushed forward.
