The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (Netflix) Review :-

What is life for many Asians if not the constant pressure from parents to settle down? The Most Beautiful Girl in the World follows a similar path, beginning with Reuben getting scolded by his father for having multiple affairs. His father insists that he settle down, and soon after, Reuben meets the perpetually annoyed Kiara. Both characters are highly skilled in their respective lives but find themselves stuck in situations they’re not happy with. As expected, a shocking twist sends Reuben’s life into chaos, and Kiara’s cynicism forces him to reflect in ways he never anticipated.

The film’s central premise is a bit outlandish, but it’s nothing unfamiliar to Asian cinema. Growing up on Bollywood films, Reuben’s father asking him to marry “the most beautiful woman in the world” within six months, as chosen by a committee, doesn’t feel too far-fetched. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, filled with love and whimsy, this quirky idea feels more charming and less absurd than it might otherwise.

The slow build-up between Reuben and Kiara is genuinely sweet. There’s an undeniable tension between them as they bicker and try to outdo each other, yet it’s all so organic and humorous that viewers can’t help but be drawn in. It’s clear there’s something between them, and when it finally happens (as expected), it feels like a satisfying victory. Despite the clichéd premise, these two characters feel like a breath of fresh air. The enemies-to-lovers trope may be familiar, but it’s always fun to watch, especially when the actors share such great chemistry.

In addition to the romance, the film delves into the personal lives of both protagonists, adding depth to their characters. It does a solid job of explaining why they are the way they are. The movie also critiques the often problematic reality TV world, especially shows that pit people against each other in the pursuit of a “relationship.” It’s all for ratings, and much of it is in poor taste. I appreciated how the film attempted to bring change to this genre, with the protagonists putting in the effort to reshape the show’s concept and figure out who they truly want to target.

Reza Rahadian does an excellent job in his role. We follow his journey to find a soulmate as he slowly falls for the “wrong” girl. His confusion and hesitation are portrayed so warmly and humorously that, despite playing a “spoiled brat,” he comes across as relatable and charming. On the other hand, Kiara remains a bit of a mystery throughout the film, and we don’t learn much about her. While more is revealed later on, Rahadian and Dara Aisha’s chemistry is so adorable that you can’t help but root for them.

That said, the film does take its time getting to the point. The slow-burn romance could have moved a bit faster to avoid dragging out the runtime. It’s not boring, but there are moments when you start wondering why the story hasn’t progressed further. Additionally, the twist in the middle felt overly dramatic and reminded me a bit too much of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. While the office romance subplot was sweet, it eventually became a bit too much. The movie also leaves several things unresolved, which is frustrating.

Final Thought

The Most Beautiful Girl in the World has its charming moments, with Reza Rahadian and Sheila Dara Aisha delivering likable performances. However, the story becomes a bit tangled towards the end. It’s still cute and dramatic, but ultimately, it feels like a forgettable Valentine’s Day movie at best.
