The Merry Gentlemen (Netflix) Review :-

Soon, the day will come when all the Netflix Christmas movies will collide, delivering a hilariously chaotic holiday experience. But before that, we get The Merry Gentlemen, a film that brings back memories of Chad Michael Murray’s glory days in One Tree Hill and A Cinderella Story—back when Netflix didn’t reference every other Christmas film it’s produced to try and make us feel festive.

What always surprises me about these movies is just how predictably formulaic they are. This holiday season, we’ve already had Meet Me Next Christmas and Hot Frosty—both delightfully stale yet oddly enjoyable in their own right. The Merry Gentlemen keeps up the tradition, offering us a quirky tale of half-naked men working to save a struggling rural theater. With Murray playing a rugged handyman who inexplicably calls Ashley “city girl,” you know you’re in for another fun, if predictable, ride.

For some reason, everyone around Ashley is fixated on her dating life. Never mind that she just lost her job days before the holidays—apparently, now she has plenty of time to find a man! While Ashley protests the strange obsession with her love life, she remains a rather bland character, gliding through the film with little internal conflict. She’s likable to an extent but also falls into the trap of having those familiar, irritating quirks that many female leads in similar films tend to share. Robertson, however, is charming and fresh-faced in the role, making the most of a rather unremarkable character.

Chad Michael Murray, on the other hand, is cast as the mysterious, dashing country boy we all know and love to swoon over. The film knows exactly what it’s doing, positioning the three handsome men as the main attractions of both The Merry Gentlemen and The Rhythm Room. Murray makes several shirtless appearances, slowly building up to the performances, and the movie knows exactly why we’re here. But that means the film doesn’t offer much beyond eye candy, leaving us to either drool over Murray or wait for the next chance to do so. It’s a little odd, really.

The Merry Gentlemen (Netflix) Trailor :-

While the premise is undeniably enticing and full of eye candy, the movie ultimately lacks that special Christmas magic. Aside from the performances, which are the only things that really get your pulse racing, there’s not much to keep you engaged. The plot twists are painfully predictable, making it hard to root for the characters. Speaking of chemistry, the spark between the leads is almost non-existent, and it becomes painfully clear as the movie drags on. However, the beauty of holiday films is that they’re not meant to be award contenders. Thankfully, the men provide enough eye-catching moments to keep your heart racing just long enough to make it to the next scene—giving the film its one redeeming quality.

Final Thought

Half of The Merry Gentlemen is completely nonsensical, while the other half showcases five men stripping on stage. It’s a perfect mix for a Christmas movie—a lighthearted formula that’s ideal for watching with a warm drink as the holiday spirit takes over. Of course, diving too deep into it isn’t really an option if you’re in it for the fun, but that’s par for the course with films in this genre!
