In a future where laziness has become an epidemic, young men opt to enter a grueling walking contest with a high-stakes twist: the winner is granted any wish they desire, but failure means death. This bleak world, where hope is scarce and vulnerability is exploited for profit, echoes familiar themes from The Hunger Games and Squid Game. However, The Long Walk takes a different path, focusing less on graphic violence and more on psychological depth. As a slow-burning survival saga, it delves into the minds of the participants, prompting reflection on their true desires versus their needs. The journey forces the boys to confront their pasts and the decisions that brought them here. Central themes like embracing the present and understanding that vengeance isn’t the answer resonate deeply throughout the film.

At the starting line, the young boys appear surprisingly upbeat about the grueling march ahead, fully aware of the deadly stakes. As they near the finish, their mood shifts dramatically—turning the walk into a powerful metaphor for life itself. However, subtitles would have been helpful, as the constant camera movement and the sound of their collective footsteps often muffle the dialogue.
