This week on The Great Indian Kapil Show, brothers and Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal and Sunny Kaushal appeared as guests. However, it was Sunil Grover who stole the spotlight and emerged as the true star of the show.
Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover putting their differences aside after six long years is proving to be a game-changer for Kapil’s latest venture, The Great Indian Kapil Show. In the recent episode, brothers and Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal and Sunny Kaushal made an appearance at Kap’s Cafe, but it was Sunil Grover who stole the limelight and emerged as the true star of the show.
The 4th episode, running for 50 minutes, bore a striking resemblance to Kapil’s previous shows – Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. It began with a sketch comedy segment featuring Sunil Grover playing the role of a lost woman searching for her husband at the airport. Kapil and Sunil’s witty exchanges set the perfect mood for the show, evoking nostalgia among fans who had missed their chemistry over the past six years.
Their comedic timing, honed through years of collaboration, shines brightly as they effortlessly riff off each other. The spontaneity of their banter often leads to laughter-filled moments, breaking the fourth wall and inviting the audience into their playful dynamic. For example, when Vicky Kaushal’s unexpected one-liner derails the script, Sunil breaks character and shares a knowing glance with Kapil, humorously remarking, “He ruined the whole script.” This impromptu exchange left both Vicky and the audience in fits of laughter.
Later in the episode, Sunil Grover reappeared in the role of Engineer Chumbak Mittal. This segment featured the two comedians playfully teasing each other, with Sunil shedding light on Kapil Sharma and Archana Puran Singh’s tactic of exaggerated laughter to enhance the show’s humor. The writing deserves praise for allowing Kapil’s colleagues to humorously critique his methods and flaws, fostering a more authentic and conversational banter.
While Sunil Grover undeniably stole the spotlight in this episode, Krushna Abhishek, portraying a desperate air hostess, also delivered some uproarious one-liners, including a hilarious joke about Vicky and Sunny’s father, Sham Kaushal. However, characters like Kiku Sharda’s Chef Dhaniya Lal and Rajiv Thakur’s nameless attendant fell short, lacking impactful lines and feeling more like fillers than integral parts of the show. Although Chef Dhaniya Lal still received significant screen time, Rajiv Thakur’s character seemed reduced to mere punctuation in this series so far.
While the sketch comedy segments in the 4th episode seemed somewhat lackluster compared to the uproarious humor of the 3rd episode, which still stands out as the most hilarious installment of The Great Indian Kapil Show, the talk-show portion of the latest episode also failed to impress. Kapil’s fans expect him to effortlessly extract entertaining anecdotes from his superstar guests. However, in this episode, aside from a bizarre ‘Gutter story’, the Kaushal brothers remained relatively reserved and failed to match the show’s energy.
The next episode will feature Aamir Khan as the guest. Let’s hope that the makers maintain the high quality of the sketch comedy segments and ensure active participation from their guests. You can watch The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix.
