The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 2 Review:- The brand new Indian comedy talk show, hosted by the renowned comedian Kapil Sharma, has made its debut on Netflix. Kapil Sharma, known for his stand-up comedy, television hosting, and singing, gained prominence when he was listed among Forbes India’s top 100 celebrities in 2013, ranking 96th. Previously, he has hosted popular shows such as Comedy Nights with Kapil and Family Time with Kapil. Sharma’s achievements include winning Comedy Circus Ke Superstars and receiving the Entertainer of the Year award at the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards in 2013.
Titled The Great Indian Kapil Show, his new show promises a humorous blend of various artists in each episode, ensuring an entertaining watch for all. The show premieres every Saturday at 8 pm exclusively on Netflix and features a talented lineup including Archana Puran Singh, Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, and Krushna Abhishek alongside Kapil Sharma.
In the initial episode, Kapil Sharma hosted Ranbir Kapoor along with two other members of the Kapoor family. While the episode was decent and watchable, it didn’t quite hit the mark of excellence. Hopes were high for subsequent episodes to bring more entertaining content, but unfortunately, that expectation wasn’t met.
The second episode featured a star-studded lineup with cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer appearing amidst the excitement of the IPL season. The audience, particularly cricket enthusiasts, were highly enthusiastic. However, despite the live audience’s positive reception (given their presence and reactions), the episode failed to impress viewers overall.
Sunil Grover, renowned for his comedic skills, presented his signature solo skit to entertain both guests and the audience. His attempt at humor, including cross-dressing, felt repetitive and some jokes came across as uncomfortable.
As the episode unfolded, Kapil Sharma tried to steer the situation back on track. However, even his comedic prowess seemed to stumble amidst a barrage of double-meaning jokes and worn-out punchlines (we’re really tired of these repetitive adult jokes!). The studio atmosphere became increasingly tense, with guests Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika visibly uneasy with the adult humor.
Despite these comedic missteps, there were genuine moments of entertainment scattered throughout the episode. The interactions between the guests and Kapil Sharma managed to salvage the overall vibe, transforming what could have been an uncomfortable experience into a more relaxed and ultimately pleasant ending.
Did Sunil Grover manage to redeem himself? Thankfully, yes. He reprised his role as the quirky engineer, Chumbak, injecting much-needed energy and laughter into the proceedings. Grover’s impeccable comic timing and eccentric character portrayal revitalized the show, sparking genuine laughter from both the audience and fellow cast members. His interactions with Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer added a playful dynamic to the episode, showcasing their comedic chemistry.
As the episode concluded, viewers were left with mixed emotions. While there were moments of genuine entertainment and engaging conversation, the repetitive jokes and uncomfortable humor detracted from the overall experience, raising questions about the show’s future direction.
In summary, the show could greatly benefit from more spontaneous and family-friendly humor. With potential to regain its status as a comedic powerhouse, it needs to move away from recycled jokes and certain comedic tropes, such as cross-dressing.
