The Great Flood Review :-
In this South Korean science-fiction film, Kim Da-mi plays An-na, a talented AI scientist and a mother trying to survive a massive flood with her young son. From the very beginning, the film creates a strong sense of danger as Seoul is hit by nonstop rain and rising water, forcing the people living in An-na’s high-rise building to fight to escape before everything is destroyed.
The survival scenes are exciting, even if they feel familiar, but the story becomes more interesting through An-na’s research and how it may help solve the crisis. For fans of disaster movies, watching people struggle to survive while panic and instinct take over is always gripping. The flooded hallways, rising water, and growing fear create constant tension and keep the film engaging.
While the film’s themes are clear, they are still meaningful. Ideas about survival, motherhood, and the future of humanity add emotional weight to the story and make it compelling to watch. Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo give strong performances, making their characters easy to care about and support throughout the film.
Kim Da-mi delivers a strong performance as An-na, a frightened mother who must protect her child while also carrying the responsibility of saving humanity. Her character has many layers, and her performance adds real emotion to the film. Because of her, the story feels more powerful. The film also includes realistic situations that often happen during disasters but are not shown as much in other movies, which helps make it feel more grounded.
However, the film becomes weaker when it tries to combine the disaster story with its science-fiction ideas. The balance between the two does not always work, and the explanations slow the pace and reduce the tension. Instead of making the story clearer or deeper, these elements can feel confusing and unnecessary.
The Great Flood Trailor :-
As a result, the 106-minute runtime feels packed and heavy. Along with the action, the film includes speculative ideas and philosophical themes that feel unnecessary and too much. It can come across as overwhelming and overdone. Disaster movies are already exciting on their own, tapping into our instinct to survive and protect others. Adding extra concepts just makes it more stressful and less enjoyable.
Final Thought
The Great Flood is okay and can be entertaining at times. However, the sci-fi elements slow down the story and aren’t really necessary. Overall, it’s worth watching once, but it’s mostly forgettable.
