The Elixir (Netflix) Review :-
It’s Halloween, the perfect time for horror movies, and zombies inevitably come to mind. Netflix’s The Elixir delivers exactly that—a zombie flick centered on a dysfunctional family that accidentally creates an elixir triggering a zombie outbreak. The first victim is the family patriarch, Pak Sadimin, the elixir’s creator, and from there, chaos spreads rapidly.
Like many zombie films, the movie relies heavily on shock value, practical effects, and characters making incredibly foolish decisions. Watching the family repeatedly blunder, turning their entire village into zombies while ignoring every obvious warning, makes you wonder if any of them have ever seen a movie before. Their constant mistakes lead to tragic—and often gruesome—consequences for themselves and others.
The film entertains with excellent practical effects and plenty of gruesome deaths. If you’re here to watch people get mangled and see innards spill out, it delivers. However, the film lacks tension, and every character will leave you feeling frustrated.
The characters seem deliberately obtuse about their situation. In one scene, a character honks their horn repeatedly in front of a zombie horde—then acts shocked when the same zombies who bit people five minutes earlier come running after them.
Moments like these make you question whether turning your protagonists into complete airheads is really a good idea—especially in a survival horror film, where smart, rational decisions are what keep you alive. A large part of the story relies on us connecting with the characters and investing in their journey to survive. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t give them enough time to establish themselves, leaving us largely indifferent to their fates. After all, it’s hard to root for anyone who constantly makes the most absurd, illogical choices.

Overall, The Elixir is just okay. The concept of a miracle drug causing a zombie outbreak is intriguing, but the film never really explains how it works, which is disappointing. Exploring that idea could have been far more engaging than watching the characters run from one house to another while making as much noise and chaos as possible.
Final Thought
The Elixir isn’t especially memorable, even though the kills are undeniably brutal. It manages to hold your attention at times, but overall, it doesn’t offer anything fresh or particularly interesting. There are plenty of zombie horror films that will genuinely make you flinch—unfortunately, this one isn’t among them.
