The Electric State (Netflix) Review :-
In this journey-driven film starring Millie Bobby Brown, a deeper social issue emerges beneath the family drama. One day, Michelle is visited by Cosmo, who appears to be her deceased brother brought back to life through a robot. The film draws us close to these characters—humans and robots alike—as we follow them on their perilous journey, all while being pursued by a formidable antagonist.
The Electric State, with its hefty $320 million budget, feels disappointingly cliched. The plot is a variation of countless other sci-fi journey films, featuring an antagonist who is devoid of any depth or nuance. While Stanley Tucci delivers a solid performance as Ethan Skate, his character is dull and lifeless. The rest of the film follows suit, with everything feeling annoyingly predictable and devoid of any meaningful substance. It’s a formulaic misfire that reminded me of Uglies in more ways than one.
The core issue with the film is that it simply isn’t fun. I can tolerate a formulaic crowd-pleaser if it keeps me on the edge of my seat, but this Netflix film is painfully obvious and lacks a distinct voice. It’s almost heartbreaking to witness such a massive waste of resources. Sure, the special effects are impressive, but a film isn’t just about flashy visuals. All the metal and glass need a soul to truly come together, and The Electric State misses that in spectacular fashion.
I couldn’t even connect with the social aspect of the plot. The idea of robots being used by humans for their own gain and then cast aside once deemed useless feels not only painfully obvious but also presented in the most simplistic, irritating way possible. Once again, it’s reminiscent of Uglies—almost eerily so. It feels like just another Netflix sci-fi offering, designed to grab as many views as possible without putting any real thought or originality into it.
Thankfully, the characters are somewhat likable. I enjoyed Millie Bobby Brown’s portrayal of Michelle, and she does a great job of expressing her character’s heartbreak. I wasn’t sure what purpose Chris Pratt’s character served, but he was funny enough to keep from being annoying. And the robots? Adorable, with fantastic voice work. The VFX, once again, is top-notch and one of the few redeeming qualities of the movie.

Final Thought
The Electric State is forgettable and downright cheesy. It had the potential to be something captivating and impactful, but it never strives to be anything more than just another mediocre piece of content we see all too often on streaming platforms. That said, the film does feature solid performances and stunning VFX, so at least it has a few redeeming qualities.
