Starring Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible 8 has reportedly encountered delays due to a mishap while filming involving a submarine worth Rs 207.8 crore ($25 million).
Fans of Mission: Impossible may need to exercise patience as the eighth installment in the franchise headlined by Tom Cruise faces production delays stemming from an incident during filming with a submarine valued at Rs 207.8 crore ($25 million). According to various reports, the malfunction occurred when the gimbal used to lower the 120-ft structure became jammed under its weight, necessitating repairs.
Consequently, production of the film has been halted for a couple of weeks, contributing to an already substantial budget, which is said to be approaching Rs 3,324.88 crore ($400 million). “They’re not happy as it puts production behind, which costs a lot of money per day,” a source informed The Mirror.

Mission Impossible 8, featuring Tom Cruise in the lead, has reportedly hit a snag due to a malfunction during filming involving a submarine valued at Rs 207.8 crore ($25 million).
Fans of Mission: Impossible will need to exercise patience as the eighth installment in the Tom Cruise-led franchise faces production delays following a mishap while filming with a submarine valued at Rs 207.8 crore ($25 million). According to several news sources, the incident occurred when the gimbal used to lower the 120-ft structure jammed under its weight, necessitating repairs.
Consequently, production of the film has been paused for a couple of weeks, leading to an escalation in its already substantial budget, which is said to be nearing Rs 3,324.88 crore ($400 million). “They’re not happy as it puts production behind, which costs a lot of money per day,” a source informed The Mirror.
A direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023), featuring Cruise’s return as protagonist Ethan Hunt, the untitled eighth Mission: Impossible film has encountered significant challenges from the outset. Following delays caused by last year’s Hollywood writers’ strike, which halted production in July 2023, filming only resumed in March this year.
As per reports, director Christopher McQuarrie mentioned before the strike that approximately 40 percent of the film had already been shot. He also noted at the time that the film’s most significant and intricate sequence was yet to be filmed. Initially slated for a summer 2024 release, Paramount Pictures, the distributors, had previously pushed back the release date to May 2025. With additional delays, the movie’s release date remains uncertain.
In addition to Cruise, the cast includes Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff, all reprising their roles from previous installments in the series.
This marks director McQuarrie’s fourth Mission: Impossible film since joining the franchise in 2015, which originated in 1996 with the first film helmed by Brian De Palma. Dead Reckoning Part One faced similar challenges, with the budget reportedly soaring to nearly $300 million due to pandemic-related delays and Cruise’s meticulous standards. The film had a lackluster performance at the box office, being released just before Barbie and Oppenheimer.
