Tere Ishk Mein Review :-

Director Aanand L Rai starts with an interesting idea: that a person’s violent tendencies can be removed through the right psychological treatment. What follows is Mukti casually dating Shankar while helping him control his violent outbursts. From the beginning, she makes it clear that it’s just professional for her, and if Shankar wants to treat it as love, that’s his choice — as long as it helps her get her thesis approved.

The story shifts when Shankar falls deeply in love with her, while she continues to see him only as a subject in her research. At this point, the film reaches the intense tone it promises, but the story by writers Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav soon becomes scattered and confusing. The plot jumps between the current wartime events and their past, and frequently veers into dramatic side tracks involving class differences, Mukti’s father (Tota Roy Chowdhury) insulting Shankar’s father (Prakash Raj), and several other subplots.

At just under three hours, the film feels too long, and the pacing is uneven in many places. The writing is full of inconsistencies, too. For someone with a PhD in psychology, Mukti behaves strangely manipulative and seems unable to handle Shankar’s intense emotions, even though she repeatedly claims she can. The idea of an angry lover casually entering the home of an IAS officer and Joint Secretary with petrol bombs and what the family thinks is acid simply doesn’t make sense.

There’s also a random scene with a pandit (Zeeshan Ayub Mohammad) making puns about Lord Shiva and “mukti,” which feels completely out of place. A love triangle and Mukti’s alcohol addiction in the second half only make the plot more tangled.

The film does have some strong moments, and Shankar’s self-destructive love is convincingly portrayed. The symbolism of Lord Shiva and fire runs throughout, starting with references from Shankar’s childhood. Cinematographer Tushar Kanti Ray handles both the lighter first half and the intense second half with skill. A.R. Rahman’s music works in parts—the theme song “Tere Ishk Mein” and the Sufi track “Deewana Deewana” stand out, while the jazz-infused “Jigar Thanda Re” sets the mood but doesn’t leave a lasting impact.

Tere Ishk Mein Trailor :-

Final Thought

The performances are the film’s strongest aspect. Dhanush shines as the abrasive, passionate, and rebellious pilot, bringing sincerity to every scene. Kriti Sanon matches his intensity, particularly in the second half. Priyanshu Painyuli as Shankar’s best friend, Prakash Raj as his father, and Tota Roy Chowdhury provide strong support. The film will appeal to fans of emotionally charged love dramas, but for others, the long runtime and uneven narrative may lessen its impact.
