Tell Me Lies – Season 2 Episode 7

In Episode 7 of Tell Me Lies Season 2, Stephen jolts awake from a shocking dream. Meanwhile, in their dorm room, Pippa scrolls through photos of Diana from the chaotic Thanksgiving party.

She shares with Bree and Lucy how she hasn’t had a chance to connect with Diana since the incident. Lucy remarks that Leo is different from Stephen and wouldn’t be as forgiving. Later, in a private moment, Bree confides in Lucy about her anxiety regarding Marianne’s Christmas party, fearing she might run into Oliver with someone else.

Meanwhile, Wrigley approaches the football coach, asking for a chance to help out. The coach declines, citing Wrigley’s lack of effort to get back on the team since his injury. Frustrated, Wrigley leaves the office and tries to call Drew but hangs up before connecting. He then reaches out to Pippa in hopes of meeting her.

At the same time, Bree visits Oliver in his office to discuss Marianne’s Christmas party. Oliver expresses how much he’d love for her to attend and surprises her with a camera, making her smile. They share a passionate kiss right there in his office. Later that night, Diana and Stephen are out for dinner, but tensions rise as they argue about her conflict with her father. Stephen accuses Diana of being selfish for considering giving up on her father’s recommendation letters and the financial support they could provide.

Just then, Diana is stunned to discover that her father has blocked her credit card. Stephen, clearly upset, picks up the check. Meanwhile, Lucy and Bree arrive at the Christmas party, where Bree feels awkward around Marianne. She wears the earrings that Oliver admires, and the two exchange secret romantic glances.

Later, Stephen visits Evan at his apartment, where Evan is busy internet sleuthing to track down the older guy Bree is seeing. Diana tries to call Stephen, but he ignores her. Frustrated, Stephen vents to Evan about his anger toward Diana and helps him search for Bree’s mysterious hookup. Meanwhile, Pippa and Wrigley spend the evening together in his dorm room.

Pippa and Wrigley share a heartfelt conversation, with Pippa attempting to lift Wrigley’s spirits. As they end up in bed together, Pippa confides in Wrigley about her exploration of her sexuality, revealing that she has been intimate with women. She asks Wrigley to keep this information confidential, as she hasn’t disclosed it to any of her friends yet. Meanwhile, at the party, Lucy notices Bree exchanging romantic glances with Oliver, which begins to concern her.

Lucy unexpectedly runs into Caitie, the girl who accused Lydia’s brother, Chris, of drugging and sexually assaulting her. As Lucy attempts to make small talk with Caitie, Marianne and Oliver join the conversation. Lucy is short with Oliver, who seems to be trying to keep his distance. Marianne then engages Lucy in a conversation about the progress she has made over the past academic year.

Oliver discreetly asks Bree to remove her lipstick and meet him in the laundry room. They engage in a passionate encounter, after which Oliver hands Bree a cloth to clean up. Bree’s moment of passion abruptly ends when she realizes the cloth is Marianne’s camisole. Oliver attempts to calm her rising panic before hastily departing. Left alone, Bree struggles to regain her composure before exiting the laundry room.

As Bree exits the laundry room, her eyes meet Lucy’s, who appears disgusted by her actions. Feeling ashamed, Bree retreats to the laundry room, where she discreetly tucks her earring into one of the pant pockets before leaving the party. The next morning, Pippa and Wrigley wake up in bed together. Pippa initiates a kiss, and they begin to make love.

Wrigley, in a moment of vulnerability, asks Pippa not to fake her orgasm this time. Their intimate encounter leaves Pippa breathless and genuinely satisfied. However, their afterglow is abruptly interrupted when Diana barges into the room, leaving both Pippa and Wrigley mortified. Diana quickly apologizes and leaves, but the embarrassment lingers. Meanwhile, Bree attempts to reconcile with Lucy, apologizing for making her uncomfortable at the party.

Bree confides in Lucy about her desire to have a family and someone to rely on. Lucy, however, warns her that Oliver isn’t going to leave his wife for her. She expresses her concern about the burden of knowing about Bree’s affair and worries about her friend’s future.

While out for a run, Lucy unexpectedly encounters Stephen, who tries to make friendly small talk. Lucy is taken aback by the shift in Stephen’s demeanor and points out that they were both terrible people during their relationship. Instead of getting defensive, Stephen empathizes with her breakup with Leo.

Once back at her dorm, Lucy receives a call from Lydia, who shares some shocking news. Lucy tries to discuss it with Pippa, revealing that Caitie has dropped the sexual assault case against Chris. Pippa expresses her concern that people might think Caitie is lying, and she admits that she remembers parts of what happened with Chris that night. She confides in Lucy that she feels powerless because her memories of the night are so vague.

Stephen returns to his dorm room and immediately starts arguing with Wrigley. When Wrigley wonders if Stephen’s anger stems from his past hookup with Diana, Stephen responds with cruel, nasty comments. Unfazed, Wrigley brushes off Stephen’s remarks and leaves. Later that night, Lucy and Bree attend a party where they encounter Diana and Molly.

As Molly greets them, Wrigley arrives with a friend. The group’s conversation turns to Caitie’s rape accusation. Lucy becomes upset when the boys suggest Caitie is lying. In a shocking move, Lucy falsely claims that Chris sexually assaulted her too, recounting Pippa’s experience as her own. Molly, a student council member, is alarmed and resolves to investigate the matter.

Pippa is visibly shaken by Lucy’s actions. When Diana attempts to speak with Pippa, Wrigley interrupts, accidentally revealing Pippa’s interest in women. This disclosure infuriates Pippa and leaves Diana feeling uncomfortable. Diana then leaves the party to confront Lucy about exposing Pippa’s story.

Lucy, feeling upset, tells Diana that even if Pippa had shared her story, Chris would likely have faced no consequences. The next morning, Wrigley arrives to see Pippa, tears in his eyes as he laments ruining everything, including Drew’s life. Pippa comforts him, listening as he opens up about his mental health struggles. She hugs him tightly and promises to help him fix things.

Meanwhile, Lucy receives a voicemail from Lydia, who is furious about her lying regarding the rape. Lydia ends the message by telling Lucy she is ending their friendship. Later, Diana finds Stephen in his dorm room and attempts to apologize. Stephen, however, tells her he’s done with her and lashes out. As Diana tries to calm him, he unexpectedly kisses her.

Stephen realizes that Diana is afraid of him and asks if she would still be with him if she knew about all the bad things he’s done. Diana reassures him that she doesn’t believe he’s a bad person, but this revelation makes Stephen reflect deeply. He decides to head over to Lucy’s dorm room.

When he arrives, he tells Lucy that they are perfect for each other because they love each other despite all the mistakes they’ve made.

Meanwhile, Bree is in class when Marianne walks in, wearing the earring Bree left behind in the laundry room. The episode concludes with Stephen confessing to Lucy that he still loves her, just as she shuts the door with him inside the room.

Final Thoughts

Given all the things Lucy has done in the past, it feels hypocritical for her to moralize Oliver for cheating on his wife. After all, she hooked up with Evan, Bree’s boyfriend, which led to their breakup and Bree’s eventual affair with Oliver. While cheating is never right, Marianne is someone Bree should definitely avoid messing with.

Not only did Bree have an affair with Oliver, but she also hooked up with him in Marianne’s house and even left her earring behind to create chaos in his life. I sympathize with both Diana and Pippa, but Wrigley is a character I genuinely like this season. I hope Pippa and Wrigley can reconnect, but we know that Pippa ends up with Diana in the future.

Every character in this show has their issues, but I really don’t think Stephen and Lucy should get back together. Despite their undeniable chemistry, they are both deeply troubled individuals who need significant therapy before seeking love again. The fact that Lucy felt the need to keep the dorm room door open out of fear that Stephen might harm her is a clear sign that she shouldn’t fall for his trap again!
