“Taaza Khabar” follows the journey of Vasya (portrayed by Bhuvan Bam), a slum dweller whose life changes drastically after receiving a blessing that grants him the ability to predict future events. Supported by his loving mother (Atisha Naik) and alcoholic father (Vijay Nikam), Vasya navigates through life in the bustling streets of Mumbai. However, everything changes when his newfound powers give him the ability to predict news before it happens. With the help of his close-knit circle, including his girlfriend Madhu (Shriya Pilgaokar), best friend Peter (Prathamesh Parab), bakery owner Mehboob Bhai (Deven Bhojani), and Mehboob’s daughter Shazia (Nitya Mathur), Vasya embarks on a journey to control his destiny.
Directed by Himank Gaur and co-written by Hussain and Abbas Dalal, the series initially shows promise but quickly falls into predictability. Despite this, Vasya’s transformation from a struggling individual to a wealthy man adds depth to the storyline. The dialogues are witty and humorous, making the show an entertaining watch. With each episode lasting less than 30 minutes, “Taaza Khabar” is ideal for binge-watching.
Bhuvan Bam delivers a commendable performance, effectively portraying Vasya’s range of emotions. His on-screen chemistry with Shriya Pilgaokar, who plays Madhu, is heartwarming. Shilpa Shukla, as brothel owner Aapa, leaves a lasting impression despite her limited role. JD Chakravarthy’s portrayal of the menacing character Shetty is convincing, while Deven Bhojani shines in a serious role after a long hiatus. The production values are commendable, with noticeable changes in the background and surroundings reflecting Vasya’s evolving life.
“Taaza Khabar” offers an interesting portrayal of a simple man with big dreams navigating through life’s challenges. It sheds light on how people’s behaviors change when money becomes a factor, making it a relatable yet somewhat unbelievable story. Nonetheless, it remains a decent choice for those looking for a binge-worthy show that combines drama, humor, and suspense.
