Recently, Taapsee Pannu disclosed that her fashion evolution wasn’t predetermined. She explored different styles through trial and error, transitioning from a ‘buffet’ phase to a ‘specialty restaurant’ over time.
Taapsee Pannu has remained silent about her recent wedding to her partner, Danish badminton player Mathias Boe. However, leaked videos of their wedding on social media have given fans a glimpse into their intimate ceremony. In a recent interview, Taapsee discussed her choice of attire for the occasion, explaining why she opted for a red salwar kameez instead of a lehenga, and how she prepared for the traditional Danish ceremony.
Describing her preference for a red salwar kameez, Taapsee told Hindustan Times, “I’ve grown up witnessing Sikh, Gurudwara weddings, so for me, the classic idea of getting married was always in a proper red salwar kameez paired with a dupatta with kinari on the border. That’s the only way I know a bride looks like a bride, and it didn’t feel like a real wedding vibe to me to imagine myself dressing up in pastel-hued lehengas.”
Taapsee also revealed that all her wedding outfits were designed by her friend rather than a renowned designer, as she wanted to maintain the privacy of her wedding. Despite keeping her big day simple and timeless, she wore her grandmother’s jewelry for a sentimental touch. She explained, “For the wedding, I wore traditional Punjabi saggi phull, which is a hair accessory, along with a very light necklace and earrings that my grandmother gave to my mother at her wedding.”
Taapsee dedicated equal effort to her Danish wedding, flying to Denmark for five days to select the perfect attire. Sharing her experience, she said, “My sister Shagun and I spent five days in Denmark, attending fittings and finalizing everything. I acquired my entire gown, veil, birdcage, and all, and brought them back to India. In Denmark, there’s a tradition to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue on your wedding day. So, the gown was ‘new,’ I wore an ‘old’ pair of heels from my closet, I ‘borrowed’ pearl earrings from my stylist Devki, and on my veil, I had some important dates of our relationship embroidered, which were in ‘blue’.”
Taapsee’s journey in the realm of fashion wasn’t predetermined. She navigated through trial and error to discover her style, transitioning from a “buffet” phase of wearing anything suggested by stylists to becoming a “specialty restaurant,” where she developed her unique fashion sense.
She explained, “When you’re new, fitting in is tough. You try hard to strike a balance between glam and authority; to be as Indian as possible while looking equally hot and nice in a bikini. Essentially, you become a buffet. I was also trying to do that. But, it took me years to realize that I’m not a buffet. I am a specialty restaurant, and I’m okay with being an acquired taste, which isn’t for everyone. It took time to accept that it’s okay not to be that potato that fits into every dish.”
On the professional front, Taapsee has an exciting lineup for 2024. She’s set to star in Arshad Syed’s comedy-drama film “Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan,” alongside Pratik Gandhi and Prateik Patil Babbar. Additionally, she’s reprising her role in the sequel to “Haseen Dillruba,” titled “Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba.”
