Subteran (Netflix) Review :-
Subteran tells the story of a single mother and IT specialist engaged to a police officer, leading a relatively normal life. Her world is shattered when her fiancé is shot dead by criminals in Bucharest. However, this is just the beginning. Soon, she finds herself entangled in an even more dangerous situation, forcing her to go undercover to confront the criminals, uncover their vulnerabilities, and protect herself and her family.

I have to start by saying how much I truly appreciated the way the story unfolds throughout the show. Instead of following a typical, idealized thriller plot, it takes a more realistic approach, depicting the brutality of people and the pervasive nature of corruption. This Romanian thriller gets it right in many ways, and you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat during several intense scenes.
The female lead isn’t someone who undergoes a sudden, dramatic transformation from naive to heroic. She’s a regular working woman, but she’s also the daughter and fiancée of police officers, so she’s familiar with how things work in that world. She understands the dangers and knows how to confront them when she has no other option. Her IT background certainly gives her an advantage, although I’m not sure how accurate it all is since I’m no expert in that field.

On the flip side, I really appreciated how the show avoids veering into romance territory. Let’s face it, when a woman who’s lost someone close to her and a man who’s an undercover cop are thrown together, there’s usually a predictable romance waiting to unfold. But not here—and I’m so glad for it. The only chemistry between these two is that of two strangers caught in the same mess, forced to work together to get out of it. And they pull it off brilliantly, making every moment of it enjoyable.
The plot is captivating and brutal, offering a stark portrayal of the criminal world. The ending may not be the typical happy one we expect, but it reflects a pragmatic resolution, with both sides agreeing to stay out of each other’s way. While the injustice might frustrate some viewers, it serves as a reminder of how things really work in such a world.
Subteran (Netflix) Trailor :-
Moving on, I must highlight the smooth camerawork, which made the viewing experience even more enjoyable. The shots weren’t too shaky, creating a flow that kept things steady and engaging. Plus, the cast’s performances are highly commendable. If this is the standard for Romanian thrillers, I’d definitely be interested in watching more.
Final Thought
Subteran is a gripping and compelling Romanian crime thriller that offers a thoroughly engaging experience for viewers. Its realistic approach may leave some viewers frustrated with the ending, but it remains satisfying in its own way. Perfect for crime thriller enthusiasts, the show delivers tense scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
“Subteran” is now streaming on Netflix.
