In Prime Video’s Steal, ordinary office workers at a pension fund company are caught in a nightmare when thieves steal billions meant for middle-class retirees through a digital heist, leaving them in a dire situation. As the police investigate, shocking secrets are revealed that turn everything upside down.
The series surprises viewers early, with a twist in the second episode, and doesn’t focus only on the heist itself. The main story follows the aftermath, revealing who was involved and showing the impact on those left behind. The tension is constant, creating a claustrophobic and gripping atmosphere. With careful pacing, the stakes rise as each event triggers the next.
Soon, Zara finds herself fighting to survive as her situation keeps getting worse—a problem partly caused by her own actions. As secrets and betrayals come to light, people’s true motives are revealed, leading to a messy and violent struggle where Zara, Rhys, and others all feel the pressure and risk getting burned in the process.
Steal is engaging at first, when nothing is clear and everything feels mysterious. The series starts off fast-paced and thrilling as Zara is unknowingly drawn into a dangerous heist with no obvious end, keeping viewers guessing and entertained.
After a few episodes, the show starts to drag, which can be frustrating. It feels stretched out, trying to build a mystery that never really lands. The slow pacing makes you want to skip ahead just to see why things went off track.
Another issue is that the series often comes across as preachy. By episode 6, while some important details are revealed, the story moves too slowly, and the moral questions it raises feel forced and unrealistic. The final conversation at Lochmill is so obvious that it’s hard not to roll your eyes.
That said, Zara is a well-written character. Time and again, she shows she can make rational, smart decisions and think ahead, even with her flaws. Her complexity makes her relatable and keeps you rooting for her, as her circumstances and choices gradually make her an easy character to support.

Sophie Turner is captivating in the series, showing Zara’s vulnerability as she uncovers the truth about those around her. Her journey from vulnerability to strength is enjoyable, highlighting her personal growth. The other characters are fine, but mostly serve to drive the story and Zara’s mission forward.
Final Thought
In the end, Steal feels rather uneventful. It’s entertaining in short bursts, but overall it doesn’t leave a strong impression due to uneven pacing and moments where the story struggles to hold attention. While Zara is a compelling character, her presence alone isn’t enough to justify watching all six episodes.
