Srikanth 2024 Movie Review :-

When a famous personality’s story is fictionalized for the silver screen, it often results in a biopic that indulges in glorification. Srikanth, however, takes a refreshingly honest and understated approach. The narrative avoids the larger-than-life hero trope, opting instead for a subtler portrayal.

Writers Sumit Purohit and Jagdeep Sidhu craft a simple narrative without the high-energy thrills of a sports drama or the grandeur of a historical epic. Despite this, director Tushar Hiranandani keeps the audience engaged by focusing on the resilience and intelligence of a visually-impaired man who overcomes challenges by outsmarting them. The film also addresses the urgent need to change societal perceptions and treatment of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in India.

While the film effectively highlights Srikanth’s struggles within the Indian educational system and professional world, it occasionally becomes repetitive. For instance, it repeatedly emphasizes society’s belief that blind people are limited to begging or candle-making for a living and shows people skeptically walking out while Srikanth is still speaking.

The movie highlights the stark contrast between India and the West. Despite topping his 12th board exams, Srikanth is rejected by Indian universities but accepted by four international universities purely on merit. It also underscores India’s lack of road safety and poor infrastructure.

Rajkummar Rao delivers a powerful performance as Srikanth, excelling particularly in portraying the character’s internal struggles that come with success. He shines in scenes where his indignation turns into insecurity and in moments of self-deprecating humor. One memorable scene features Srikanth tripping, hurting his forehead, and playfully fooling his girlfriend, Swati (Alaya F), into thinking he has regained his eyesight. While Rao convincingly portrays the adult Srikanth, the depiction of his teenage years seems a bit unconvincing. Jyothika impresses as Devika, Srikanth’s supportive teacher, and Sharad Kelkar plays Ravi, his friend, mentor, and business partner, with finesse, embodying the quiet strength and understanding of a true friend. Alaya F delivers a charming performance as Srikanth’s love interest, though her character could have been given more depth beyond the romantic subplot.

The film features hummable romantic tracks by Sachet-Parampara (Tu Mil Gaya and Tumhe Hi Apna Maana Hai), but the standout piece is Papa Kehte Hain from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, recreated by Aditya Dev. Saxophonist ID Rao adds an anthem-like quality that enhances the film’s triumphant feel, especially in the emotionally charged second half.

Breaking the biopic mold, Srikanth offers a refreshingly honest portrayal that celebrates potential over glorification. It will leave you feeling inspired and reflecting on the need for human dignity and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
