Splinter Cell - Deathwatch (Netflix) Review :-

My limited research into Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy’s hugely popular video game series, revealed that Sam Fisher is undoubtedly the franchise’s standout character—memorable for many reasons. If you’re like me and unfamiliar with the series, this Netflix adaptation offers an entertaining watch, though a bit of background knowledge or a quick review might help you get more out of it.

Here, Fisher is older but far from irrelevant, still landing punches with skill and precision. The show doesn’t shy away from his age, showing moments of slowed reflexes that anyone over a certain age can relate to. This adds a grounded, realistic layer to his character, making him feel more dynamic. The supporting cast is decent—though they’re not the main focus—and while some characters occasionally fall into familiar tropes, they generally have meaningful roles and aren’t just there to serve Fisher’s story.

As for the story, I found the setting and tone to be really strong, and the action sequences were impressive. There’s a fair amount of gore, which is a bit of a shift since the video games focus more on stealth. This might actually work in the show’s favor by keeping new viewers engaged rather than skipping ahead. However, the overall plot felt somewhat predictable and repetitive. The side stories occasionally wander without much direction, and there isn’t quite enough fresh material to make the series truly stand out.

I also appreciated the animation style—it’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s clean and reliable. Liev Schreiber delivers a strong performance as Sam Fisher, grabbing your attention right from the first episode. That said, the intense tension that defines the games doesn’t quite come through here. A more complex plot might have made a bigger impact, especially given how action-packed the series is. Overall, I didn’t find it particularly suspenseful, which makes the viewing experience a bit underwhelming.

Final Thought

Overall, I found Splinter Cell: Deathwatch to be an enjoyable watch, though it doesn’t bring anything fresh or standout to the series. For newcomers, that could be a drawback since it doesn’t do much to attract new fans, or perhaps it’s content to rely on its existing audience. Either way, for me, it’s a solid one-time watch.
