Space Cadet (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-
Space Cadet (AmazonPrimeVideo) ‘Space Cadet’ is a shallow film with little substance to offer. Its implausible plot blurs the line between comedy and drama, revolving around the ambitions of a bartender. The film takes liberties with reality and fails to deliver an engaging narrative. Regrettably, the performances also fail to meet expectations.
The film follows Rex Simpson (Emma Roberts), a bartender rebuilding her life after her mother’s death, who shares her dream of space travel. Determined to fulfill this aspiration, Rex applies to NASA’s astronaut training program but faces disappointment when she fails to meet the requirements. Her best friend Nadine (Poppy Liu) writes a cover letter embellishing Rex’s achievements, securing her a place in the program. At NASA, Rex meets trainers Logan O’Leary (Tom Hopper) and Pam Proctor (Gabrielle Union). With hard work and a positive attitude, Rex impresses her superiors. However, when Logan verifies her credentials, he discovers her deception, leading to Rex’s expulsion from the program.

‘Space Cadet’ is hindered by severe editing issues. Numerous scenes feel disjointed and lack coherence. For instance, during a sequence where Rex is bartending, the camera pans to reveal an inexplicably empty space. The cinematography is mediocre, and the special effects appear amateurish. Beyond these technical flaws, the film’s plot is implausible. The notion that NASA would enlist someone without scientific expertise for a rescue mission to save four trained astronauts is both ludicrous and unrealistic. Regrettably, these shortcomings overshadow any potential the film might otherwise possess.
Emma Roberts delivers a lackluster portrayal of Rex Simpson. Her performance is uninspired and fails to elevate the film. The role demanded energy, cheerfulness, and a portrayal of a woman with a warm heart, yet Roberts never fully embodies these qualities with a distinctive flair. Poppy Liu, playing Nadine, Rex’s best friend, succeeds in bringing life to their scenes together. Unfortunately, Gabrielle Union is underused, and Tom Hopper’s performance is merely average.
In tone, this film draws parallels to ‘The Internship’ and ‘Legally Blonde,’ where Reese Witherspoon’s character fakes her way into Harvard. Similarly, Emma Roberts’ character falsifies her entry into NASA. However, while ‘Legally Blonde’ was entertaining, ‘Space Cadet’ is intolerable. The comedy briefly shines in scenes featuring Rex’s father at work, but his role is minimal. ‘Space Cadet’ feels hurried and poorly executed, lacking in plot, performances, and direction. There’s nothing redeeming about this film.
