Sitaare Zameen Par Review :-

An official remake of the 2018 Spanish hit Champions, Sitaare Zameen Par acts as an indirect sequel to 2007’s Taare Zameen Par. While the earlier film explored developmental disabilities through the lens of dyslexia and remedial education, this one shifts the spotlight to individuals with intellectual disabilities—such as Down syndrome and invisible autism—on a basketball court.

Despite tackling a sensitive and complex subject, R S Prasanna’s directorial effort, penned by Divy Nidhi Sharma, remains a warm and uplifting watch. The film skillfully balances its educational message about intellectual disabilities with a lighthearted tone. At its heart is a powerful message of inclusivity, showing that individuals with intellectual disabilities are capable, independent, vibrant, and deeply empathetic. The portrayal of the characters’ unique traits is handled with care—Bantu’s (Vedant Sharma) ear-scratching stimming, Guddu’s (GopiKrishnan K Verma) aquaphobia, Sharmaji’s (Rishi Shahani) speech impairment, and the subtle depiction of invisible autism in high-functioning Hargovind (Naman Misra). These qualities are shown as integral parts of their personalities rather than mere symptoms.

The film blends heartfelt emotion with energy, steering clear of overly preachy tones. Intellectual disability is expressed through relatable lines like, “Humaari kismat haathon pe nahi, chromosome pe likh ke aati hai” (“Our destiny isn’t written on our palms—it’s written in our chromosomes”). While the familiar underdog sports storyline and troubled coach arc are well-worn, the film’s warmth and humor keep it engaging.

That said, the narrative occasionally meanders. Subplots involving the coach’s mother, Preeto (Dolly Ahluwalia Tewari), and their butler, Daulatji (Bijendra Kala), add little to the main story. Some scenes feel stretched, causing the pacing to lag at times. The climax veers into excessive sentimentality, and certain moments—like the team handling airfare and accommodation for the final match—come off as convenient and clichéd.

Final Thought

Aamir Khan shines as the brash, initially insensitive, and politically incorrect coach, convincingly portraying a man who grows yet keeps his signature swagger. Genelia Deshmukh is earnest as his wife Suneeta, though her role lacks depth. The ensemble cast—Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, GopiKrishnan K Verma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai, and Naman Misra—deserves praise for infusing the film with energy, authenticity, and warmth. Dolly Ahluwalia Tewari, Bijendra Kala, and Gurpal Singh provide solid support.

If Taare Zameen Par captured the soul, Sitaare Zameen Par brings the spirit. It’s a heartwarming family film that blends comedy, compassion, and charm—definitely worth a trip to the theatre.
