The narrative of “Sing 2” builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, “Sing,” where Buster Moon, portrayed by Matthew McConaughey, steers his theater away from closure and into local stardom.

After failing to impress the discerning Suki with his rendition of Alice In Wonderland, Buster embarks on a journey with his troupe, including the vivacious piggy couple Rosita and Gunter (voiced by Reese Witherspoon and Nick Kroll), the aspiring gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), and the timid elephant Meena (Tori Kelly), to Red Shore City. Their mission: to audition at Jimmy Crystal’s Crystal Towers. With the addition of former team member Ash, a porcupine rocker voiced by Scarlett Johansson, Buster’s plan takes shape.

Their audacity leads them to sneak into Jimmy Crystal’s auditions, where his tyrannical rejection seems inevitable until Gunter’s spontaneous pitch catches Jimmy’s attention. Promising to enlist the reclusive rockstar lion, Clay Calloway (voiced by Bono), Buster secures a fleeting opportunity. However, locating Clay proves daunting, especially as he has withdrawn from public life following his wife’s demise fifteen years prior. The film unfolds as Buster navigates the challenges of assembling the musical, aided significantly by Ash’s admiration for Clay.

The narrative is punctuated by the individual journeys of the characters, each grappling with personal hurdles. Rosita confronts her fear of heights, Johnny hones his dancing skills under the tutelage of Nooshy, and Meena discovers true love amidst her performance with Darius, the ice cream-selling elephant. Meanwhile, Clay emerges from seclusion, spurred by his reunion with the stage.

Garth Jennings’ screenplay masterfully weaves these arcs together, accompanied by a stellar soundtrack selection. Scarlett Johansson’s rendition of “Heads Will Roll” and Reese Witherspoon’s rendition of “Break Free” stand out, complementing Bono’s rendition of U2’s classic “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Much like its predecessor, “Sing 2” delivers an entertaining narrative with a subtle yet resonant message, making it a delightful watch for audiences of all ages.
