Sharmajee Ki Beti (AmazonPrimeVideo) Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’s directorial debut, ‘Sharmaajee Ki Beti,’ distinguishes itself through its authentic portrayal of female experiences, striking a chord with audiences of all generations. Balancing weighty themes with a light touch, Kashyap deftly navigates humorous situations that feel natural and unforced—a rare achievement for the film.

United by a shared surname, the narrative delves into the lives of ordinary Indian women across different age groups and circumstances. Teenage friends Swati (Vanshika Taparia) and Gurveen (Arista Mehta) navigate the challenges of adolescence. Swati grapples with resentment toward her career-driven mother, Jyoti (Sakshi Tanwar), who strives to juggle work and parenthood with support from her understanding husband, Sudhir (Sharib Hashmi). Meanwhile, Gurveen’s mother, Kiran (Divya Dutta), finds solace in her love for Tambola (Housie) as she adjusts to life in a new city. Tanvi (Saiyami Kher), a talented cricketer at the state level, confronts discouragement from her self-centered boyfriend. Sakshi Tanwar delivers a formidable performance, portraying a relatable mother figure, complemented by Sharib Hashmi’s endearing portrayal as her supportive husband, reminiscent of his role in Tarla Dalal’s biopic. Teen actors Vanshika Taparia and Arista Mehta shine brilliantly, anchoring the film with their heartfelt performances. Divya Dutta delivers a nuanced and captivating portrayal of Kiran Sharma. While Saiyami Kher’s storyline is understandable, her performance feels stiff at times. Ravjeet Singh effectively portrays Tanvi’s self-absorbed boyfriend, while newcomer Sushant Ghadge impresses with some of the film’s standout moments as Kiran’s house-help, Chotu.
