Sarfira kicks off with a high-octane opening scene where two men, attempting to prevent a disaster at an airstrip, are apprehended by commandos. This adrenaline-fueled introduction sets the tone for Vir Jagannath Mhatre’s (Akshay Kumar) daring dream of launching a low-cost airline that enables ordinary people to fly.
The narrative follows Vir’s journey from Air Force pilot to ambitious entrepreneur, highlighting the challenges he faces in an aviation industry controlled by the powerful tycoon Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal). Throughout the story, we see glimpses of Vir’s personal life, showcasing the unwavering support of his spirited wife, Rani (Radhika Madan).
For those looking for a story of resilience and unwavering determination, director Sudha Kongara’s film delivers brilliantly. It showcases Vir’s ability to overcome obstacles and relentlessly pursue his dream.

Sarfira is more than just a rags-to-riches tale or a story about defying odds; it also addresses issues of patriarchy, class divide, and casteism. While Vir aims for high-flying ambitions, his spirited wife Rani has her own aspirations. Her goals extend beyond being a supportive wife; she dreams of starting a bakery and is determined to achieve it. Rani consistently challenges patriarchal norms in her own bold way, without needing loud declarations. Her support for Vir’s dreams, while maintaining her individuality, is a standout element of the film. The playful banter and affection between the couple are heartwarming. Vir sees his mission to launch a low-cost airline as a way to break caste barriers, while Paresh, the antagonist, opposes the idea of the affluent mingling with the less privileged.
The screenplay by Sudha Kongara, Pooja Tolani, and Shalini Ushadevi occasionally stretches the narrative, leading to some repetition in the lead character’s challenges. The dialogues, crafted by Pooja Tolani, aim to deliver a consistent message throughout various situations, which can feel a bit tiresome. The story unfolds across multiple timelines—covering Vir and Rani’s courtship, his past activism, and their present struggles. This frequent use of flashbacks can sometimes be confusing, and the music by GV Prakash Kumar often leans toward melodrama rather than inspiration. Although the core message is genuine and the lead character’s intentions are noble, the story could have been told in a tighter runtime. While the film is enjoyable, it doesn’t always maintain a smooth trajectory.
The film is an Akshay Kumar showcase from beginning to end. The actor delivers a nuanced performance, effortlessly capturing a wide range of emotions—disappointment, frustration, gratitude, helplessness, and love. He particularly shines in moments like his heartfelt plea for a loan at the airport and his charming awkwardness when borrowing money from Rani to pursue his dreams. Radhika Madan is equally impressive, portraying a woman who is both ambitious and unapologetic about her aspirations. While the lead couple excels, Paresh Rawal’s character feels one-dimensional and lacks a significant impact. Seema Biswas and Anil Charanjeett provide strong supporting roles.
Although the narrative could be crisper and the film shorter, it ultimately lands on a high note. It’s an inspiring tale, elevated by outstanding performances from the lead cast. Buckle up for this journey!
