The Season 6 finale of “Riverdale” has left fans intrigued, particularly with its unexpected twist ending. This season has been the most peculiar yet, steering the series into supernatural territory, a direction creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously swore it would never go. The penultimate episode witnessed the return of the villainous sorcerer Percival Pickens, who set in motion the imminent threat of Bailey’s Comet hurtling towards Riverdale. Compounding the danger, Percival erected a magical barrier around the town, trapping its inhabitants.

In the finale, Veronica hatches a daring plan to save the town by transferring the team’s powers to Cheryl through a blood ritual. Despite Cheryl successfully diverting the comet and averting disaster, the finale takes a jaw-dropping turn as Archie wakes up in the 1950s. Jughead, the show’s narrator, reveals that Cheryl’s heroic act has transported the gang back to Riverdale High School in 1955.

The finale leaves many questions unanswered, but the truth is revealed in the first episode of Season 7. Tabitha realizes that Cheryl’s intervention wasn’t entirely successful, prompting her to use her remaining time-traveling ability to send the gang back to the 1950s in an effort to rewrite history. Aguirre-Sacasa has hinted that this retro setting will persist into Season 7.

Jughead’s closing words in the Season 6 finale, “I’m the only one who remembers what life was like B.C. – Before Comet,” suggest that he alone retains memories of their previous reality. This anomaly hints at Jughead’s omniscient nature, consistent with his role as the show’s narrator.

Cheryl’s ancestral ties to witchcraft become crucial in the finale as she seeks a solution to the impending disaster. Ultimately, she taps into her phoenix powers to destroy the comet, saving Riverdale from destruction. However, Jason’s resurrection, orchestrated by Cheryl, leads to unforeseen consequences, highlighting the repercussions of meddling with fate.

The Season 6 finale also sees the original couples revisited, offering nostalgic callbacks to “Riverdale’s” roots. While some loose ends remain, the twist sets the stage for an intriguing final season that embraces the show’s comic book origins.

As “Riverdale” nears its conclusion, the unexpected shift to the 1950s opens new avenues for storytelling. With the series finale looming, fans eagerly anticipate how the time jump will culminate in the ultimate resolution for the characters and their beloved town.
