Retta Thala Review :-

When a hero heals from gunshot injuries quicker than he changes clothes, it’s clear the film has dropped any sense of realism. Arun Vijay plays two roles: Kaali, a poor orphan from Pondicherry who suffers from constant headaches, and Malpe Upendra, a gangster from Goa out on parole for murder. After their paths cross, Kaali and his girlfriend Andrée (Siddhi Idnani) end up killing Upendra during a fight and decide to take his place to claim his money. However, a corrupt police officer, Thiraviyam (John Vijay), and Upendra’s rivals soon close in, threatening their plan.

The film spends too much time spelling out backstories instead of letting the story flow naturally. Kaali’s life in Pondicherry and Upendra’s criminal past in Goa are shown through uneven flashbacks that break the pace. Characters don’t grow through their actions or conversations; they are simply pushed from one scene to another, often across different languages for no clear reason. Kaali easily defeats groups of enemies, and Andrée walks away from a serious stabbing as if it barely matters. Because everything feels too easy, there is little tension and the results are always predictable.

John Vijay’s talkative, over-the-top cop performance now feels exaggerated and repetitive. His character is more irritating than entertaining. Tanya Ravichandran has very little screen time, making her role forgettable. Hareesh Peradi’s gang of criminals is portrayed so loudly and loosely that it’s hard to take them seriously. A late reveal about Kaali’s true identity is meant to surprise, but it fails to make much impact.

Retta Thala Trailor :-

Arun Vijay gives his all to both roles, staying fit and intense, but the script limits him to typical action-hero moments. Siddhi Idnani’s character drives his decisions at first but soon fades into the background. Sam CS’s music is okay, though it sometimes feels a bit too much.

The film looks polished, with varied locations, slick visuals, and a runtime under two hours. But it lacks smooth storytelling. Scenes feel disconnected, happening one after the other, and the movie never finds a rhythm that makes you fully engage with the story.
