Reeta Sanyal (DisneyHotstar) Review :-
“Reeta Sanyal” is a forgettable legal crime drama that leaves little impression once it concludes. Adapted from Amir Khan’s “Reeta Sanyal Ke Mukaddamein” novels, the show tests viewers’ patience and lacks the depth typically expected from serious legal thrillers. It relies heavily on drama to introduce its protagonist and antagonist, but this approach ultimately falls flat. The most significant flaw, however, lies in its title. Despite the Bengali surname “Sanyal,” there’s no connection to Bengal within the series. The lead character never speaks a word of Bengali, and any cultural ties are entirely missing. This disconnection raises questions about the relevance of the title itself.
The story kicks off on a light note as lawyer Reeta Sanyal (Adah Sharma) defends Rocky, a dog accused of scaling a five-foot fence and fathering four puppies, with the other dog’s family demanding one million rupees in compensation. After winning the case, Reeta meets Keshav outside the courtroom, whose mother has been arrested for the murder of local MLA Parav Rane. When Reeta presses him for details, Keshav reveals that he himself committed the crime, claiming to have executed the “perfect murder.”
As the plot unfolds, we learn that Reeta’s father, a customs officer, fell victim to a drug racket orchestrated by lawyer M. Raj Thakral (Rahul Dev). When Reeta agrees to take on Keshav’s case, she discovers that Thakral is her opponent.
Adah Sharma appears comfortable in her role, but her performance lacks depth, and her comedic attempts miss the mark. Rahul Dev portrays Thakral with a menacing seriousness, though he is constrained by a script that prioritizes entertainment over a compelling legal narrative. The creators successfully establish Reeta Sanyal as a promising newcomer in the legal arena, eager for a breakthrough case. However, it’s best to approach this series as light entertainment rather than a high-concept legal thriller.
Reeta Sanyal (DisneyHotstar) Trailor :-
From the very first scene, “Reeta Sanyal” undermines the legal system, revealing the creators’ intentions. The introduction of a female character (Zi, played by Nirisha Basnett) who is skilled in martial arts and assigned to kill Keshav feels forced. This screen time could have been better used to build suspense and intrigue. Overall, “Reeta Sanyal” comes off as amateurish, and if the first two episodes are any indication, viewers should brace themselves for a bumpy journey ahead.
“Reeta Sanyal” is now streaming on DisneyHotstar.
