Red One (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-
“Red One” is a festive action-adventure with a hint of fantasy, designed mainly for children, and it mostly succeeds in providing entertainment. While it doesn’t quite reach the level of a holiday classic, it keeps the audience engaged with its fast pace and impressive special effects. The focus on action leaves little time to scrutinize its flaws, encouraging viewers to simply enjoy the ride. With a mix of hits and misses, “Red One” is best appreciated by putting logic aside and embracing its fun, holiday spirit. It’s neither outstanding nor dreadful but serves its purpose of delivering festive enjoyment.
The story centers on the kidnapping of Santa Claus (JK Simmons) just one day before Christmas. Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson), Santa’s loyal lieutenant and head of security at the North Pole, is thrust into the crisis. The abduction occurs on the same day Callum plans to resign after over 700 years of service, frustrated by the growing number of children landing on the naughty list. It soon emerges that a black ops team carried out the kidnapping, breaching North Pole security with the help of Jack (Chris Evans), a dark web hacker known as “The Wolf.” Jack claims he had no idea Santa was the target and was merely working for an anonymous client. Reluctantly, Callum teams up with Jack, setting them on a perilous journey to uncover the truth.
This film embraces its role as a Christmas spectacle, offering little in the way of a coherent plot or complex characters. Instead, it revels in its absurdity, filled with quirky gimmicks and a handful of interesting characters. The star-studded cast delivers solid performances, fully committing to the film’s whimsical tone. The action sequences shine, with breathtaking moments enhanced by impressive VFX, such as a thrilling rescue when snowmen try to freeze a middleman in Aruba. However, the interactions between Jack and Callum fall flat. Despite their extensive screen time together during the Santa rescue, their dialogue lacks the wit and charm needed to make a lasting impact. This is a missed opportunity, especially when compared to films like Midnight Run or Planes, Trains and Automobiles, where the chemistry and banter between the leads became iconic. These comparisons reveal what could have been a more compelling dynamic.
Dwayne Johnson shines as Callum Drift, perfectly capturing the loyal and devoted head of Santa’s security. His dedication to Santa is clear, and his signature mannerisms bring Callum’s unwavering commitment to life. As expected, Johnson excels in the action scenes, showcasing his strengths in this area. Chris Evans gives a compelling performance as Jack, a self-interested hacker who excels at looking out for his own interests. He adds a quirky charm to the role and handles it with skill. JK Simmons, though playing Santa Claus, has limited screen time, which feels like a missed opportunity, and the same can be said for Lucy Liu, who portrays Zoe, the North Pole’s director of operations. Both actors make an impact, but they are not given enough chances to truly shine.

Final Thought
Red One relies more on events and special effects than on performances, and it fits this mold perfectly. While undeniably cheesy, it offers a refreshing twist on the usual flood of Christmas films that fill the season. Despite its lighthearted tone, even in more serious moments, the film remains self-aware and doesn’t take itself too seriously, staying true to its primary goal—entertainment. With its ambitious scope, the film delivers on its promise of being a fun, family-friendly experience. Though it’s best not to set high expectations, Red One succeeds in providing enjoyable, festive entertainment.
“Red One” is now streaming on AmazonPrimeVideo.
