Rangeen aims to be a bold, small-town drama with a provocative premise—a newspaper editor turned gigolo—but instead gets lost in a muddled narrative that never fully commits to its tone or themes. What could have been a sharp, darkly comic exploration of masculinity, ego, and revenge ends up as a confused blend of subplots, tonal shifts, and underdeveloped characters. The series tries to juggle satire, personal journey, relationship drama, and a quirky glimpse into a hidden local underworld—but fails to deliver any of these elements with true conviction. With its uneven pacing and a lackluster lead performance, Rangeen feels more like an unfinished draft than a polished story.
The series follows Adarsh Johri (Vineet Kumar Singh), a passionate small-town journalist who runs a weekly newspaper with dreams of turning it into a daily. His life is shattered when he catches his wife Naina (Rajshri Deshpande) with a gigolo named Sunny (Taaruk Raina). Humiliated and desperate for revenge, Adarsh embarks on an unexpected path—becoming a gigolo himself. Sunny introduces him to Sitara (Sheeba Chaddha), who discreetly manages a gigolo service from behind her clothing boutique. As Adarsh stumbles through this new world of awkward encounters and self-doubt, his marriage deteriorates further and his career ambitions fade into the background. While the show hints at a sharp, absurd character journey, it quickly loses momentum, with several episodes—especially the sixth—feeling like filler.
Vineet Kumar Singh struggles to anchor the series as Adarsh, a character meant to be unraveling, conflicted, and evolving—but his performance rarely rises above a limited range. The charm and desperation needed to convincingly portray his transformation into a gigolo are noticeably absent. Rajshri Deshpande, an actor known for her impressive range, is weighed down by a poorly developed character stuck in repetitive emotional cycles. The supporting cast, however, injects some much-needed energy into Rangeen. Taaruk Raina shines as Sunny—cheeky, smooth, and multi-dimensional—bringing a vital spark to his scenes. Sheeba Chaddha delivers a quietly commanding portrayal of Sitara, effortlessly balancing warmth and cunning. While several quirky side characters add color to the story, none are given enough space to truly flourish.
