Pushtaini Review :-
Pushtaini Just like many young men who flock to Mumbai chasing Bollywood dreams, Bhuppi, also known as Aaryan Shaw (played by Vinod Rawat), faces his own share of challenges. After landing a role in a film alongside Rajkummar Rao, he battles nerves but ultimately delivers a standout performance. However, his joy is short-lived as he is blackmailed by his supposed friend Sumit (Nitin Goel) who threatens to release a compromising video unless Bhuppi pays him 8 lakh rupees. Faced with this dilemma, Bhuppi is compelled to return to his hometown in Uttarakhand to claim his inheritance, only to find that much has changed since he left. As he fights to reclaim what is rightfully his, Bhuppi must confront not only external obstacles but also his inner demons.
Director and co-writer Vinod Rawat, renowned for his role as an acting coach to Bollywood stars such as Hrithik Roshan, helms this poignant drama. Bringing a sense of authenticity by casting his own family members and shooting in the scenic locales around Nainital, his hometown, Rawat adds depth to the narrative. However, the film’s pacing occasionally falters, leaving viewers craving more coherence. While Rawat succeeds in forging an emotional connection with the audience, the story’s uneven progression often raises more questions than it answers. Despite its brief runtime, the film offers only fleeting moments of catharsis, leaving one to ponder if Bhuppi’s plight could have been navigated differently.
In terms of performance, Vinod Rawat delivers adequately despite the uneven development of his character and the storyline. Rita Heer shines as the unpredictable and free-spirited Dimple, yet her character could have been explored further. Hemant Pandey impresses as the motor-mouthed and flirtatious small-town taxi driver Hemant. The film hits its stride when these three characters share the screen, but outside of these moments, the narrative often drags, culminating in a dissatisfying climax. It’s as if investing in these characters leaves the audience feeling shortchanged, yearning for more depth and development.
Dhawalika Singh’s cinematography beautifully captures the tranquil landscapes of Uttarakhand with understated elegance, though some might argue for a more integrated use of the region’s atmospheric charm in the storytelling.
In essence, ‘Pushtaini’ unfolds as a deeply personal journey constrained by its own narrative limitations. Rawat’s directorial debut ambitiously weaves together themes of past regrets, present struggles, and future aspirations but occasionally gets entangled in its own complexities.
