Project Silence Review :-

Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli* explores the journey of filmmaker SS Rajamouli, whose innovative storytelling and groundbreaking visual effects have captivated audiences both in India and around the world. The documentary provides valuable insight into Rajamouli’s creative process and path to success. However, while it is engaging, its narrative scope feels somewhat limited. Including perspectives from a broader range of voices, beyond those who have worked closely with Rajamouli, would have enriched the documentary. In Bollywood, only Karan Johar offers his views on the director’s legendary status. Additionally, the absence of prominent South Indian directors and actors—who revere Rajamouli as a demigod—leaves a gap in understanding his full impact.

This documentary traces SS Rajamouli’s journey from his childhood. Growing up in a filmmaking family, Rajamouli faced financial hardships early on. His father, V Vijayendra Prasad, recounts the uncertainty of their next meal as they ventured into the film industry. MM Keeravaani, the acclaimed music director and Rajamouli’s cousin, discusses the family’s string of failures in filmmaking, attributing them to their diversion into non-film-related activities. The film then explores Rajamouli’s early break into directing, which came through K. Raghavendra Rao. Tasked with creating short films on literacy, Rajamouli faced a challenging start and initial jitters. However, he soon gained confidence and began to excel, setting the stage for a remarkable and celebrated career in filmmaking.

Project Silence Trailor :-

A significant portion of the documentary highlights Baahubali and RRR, two landmark films that defined SS Rajamouli’s career. Although Magadheera and Eega are mentioned, they receive less focus. Insights from Ram Charan, NT Rama Rao Jr., and Rana Daggubati offer a glimpse of Rajamouli on set, underscoring his dedication and vision. One of the most compelling aspects of the documentary is the portrayal of the hard work and commitment of his entire family—his wife, cousin, sons, sister-in-law, and other relatives—who have supported his success. Anupama Chopra, the presenter, successfully interviews many, including Rajamouli’s wife, Rama Rajamouli, a reserved figure, about their relationship and his proposal. The documentary also features behind-the-scenes footage from the making of his blockbusters, providing insight into the creative process behind Baahubali and RRR. Additionally, Rajamouli discusses the origin of the credit plate “A film by SS Rajamouli,” which has appeared after Simhadri.

The documentary could have benefited from a broader range of perspectives. While SS Rajamouli’s films are celebrated for their groundbreaking visual effects, this aspect is not explored in depth. The absence of insights from prominent contemporary filmmakers from both Bollywood and the South Indian film industry is notable. Contributions from directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rohit Shetty, Shankar, or Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who are currently influential, would have greatly enriched the film. Although James Cameron’s comment, “If you ever wanna make a movie over here, let’s talk,” is included, there is no further exploration of this intriguing potential collaboration. While the documentary does shed light on some lesser-known aspects of Rajamouli’s career, it misses opportunities that could have made it more engaging.
