The sudden passing of Dangal actor Suhani Bhatnagar has left the industry reeling with shock and sorrow. Suhani, who portrayed the young Babita Phogat alongside Aamir Khan in the acclaimed film, departed at the tender age of 19 on February 16, 2024. Her demise has prompted an outpouring of condolences from her colleagues, including her co-star Zaira Wasim, who essayed the role of young Geeta Phogat in the same film.
Zaira Wasim, who shared many memorable moments with Suhani on the sets of Dangal, took to social media to express her grief over the heartbreaking news. In a poignant post, Zaira reflected on the profound sadness she felt upon learning of Suhani’s passing and extended her heartfelt sympathies to Suhani’s family.
In a conversation with Bombay Times, Zaira lamented the loss of her dear friend, expressing disbelief and sorrow at the tragic turn of events. She fondly recalled their time together on set, describing Suhani as a radiant presence with whom she shared cherished memories.
Initially, reports suggested that Suhani’s demise was linked to complications arising from a leg fracture and adverse reactions to medication. However, her father clarified that Suhani was battling dermatomyositis, a rare medical condition that required steroid treatment. Unfortunately, the steroids weakened her immune system, leading to complications such as fluid accumulation in her lungs, ultimately resulting in her untimely passing.
Meanwhile, Zaira Wasim, known for her roles in films like Dangal and The Sky is Pink, bid adieu to her acting career in 2019, citing personal reasons and a desire to align with her religious beliefs. Despite her departure from the industry, Zaira continues to be remembered for her impactful performances and her poignant tribute to her late co-star serves as a testament to their enduring bond.
