Priyanka Chopra Jonas, currently renowned as an international star and global icon, shared insights into her decision to relocate to the US and commence her career there. The actress initially ventured to America as a singer and later secured roles in shows like Quantico, catapulting her into the spotlight. During a recent interaction, she disclosed her frustration with the politics prevalent in Bollywood, recounting instances where she was denied film opportunities due to her relationship status, which ultimately prompted her to distance herself from the industry and the city.
In a recent episode of the podcast “Read The Room,” Priyanka Chopra addressed the topic of rejection and reflected on her journey of learning to cope with it. Acknowledging the inherent difficulty in handling rejection, she remarked, “It’s tough, especially in a profession driven by validation. Whether it’s the audience turnout for your movie, your director’s opinion of your performance, or your casting agent’s assessment, it’s all subjective.”
Reflecting on her experiences in the Bollywood industry, Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared, “I’ve encountered a lot of rejection in the film industry for various reasons. Whether it was not being suitable for a role, favoritism, or the casting of someone’s girlfriend, there have been numerous factors at play. I came to terms with it a long time ago. It’s a reality we must acknowledge. We may try to convince ourselves that we’re better than that, that we’re confident, but it’s not always true. It’s important to allow yourself to feel the sting of rejection. It’s akin to grieving. I acknowledge it, move on, and brush it aside. I made peace with work-related rejection a long time ago.”
For those unfamiliar, Priyanka Chopra Jonas made her Bollywood debut after winning the Miss World title in 2000. She ventured into Bollywood films and also explored opportunities in South Indian cinema. However, around 2014, she shifted her focus to New York and pursued international opportunities as a singer. Her major breakthrough in the American entertainment industry came in 2015 when she landed the lead role in the crime series Quantico.
Currently, Priyanka is balancing between two film projects, “Heads of State” and “The Bluff,” as she is shooting for them simultaneously in Europe.
