Priyanka Chopra revealed that Nick Jonas has had to learn to speak up more since marrying her.
Priyanka Chopra recently shared insights into the cultural contrasts between herself and her husband Nick Jonas, highlighting their journey to find equilibrium six years into their marriage. Priyanka explained that despite both coming from large families, their upbringing differed significantly in terms of cultural backgrounds, necessitating a process of learning and unlearning to achieve harmony.
In a recent conversation on the Read the Room podcast, she shared their mutual appreciation for each other’s home countries and their readiness to embrace each other’s cultures. “He adored everything about India, while I grew up in the States, which felt like a second home to me. So, we fully embraced each other’s cultures. However, it was the cultural nuances that presented differences.”
Priyanka then discussed the contrast between her Indian family’s tendency to “speak over each other’s sentences” and the Jonas family’s different communication style. She admitted that adjusting to this difference was challenging for her. “In my family, it’s common to interrupt each other and finish sentences before they’re completed,” she explained. “But in Nick’s family, it’s different. They wait for each person to finish speaking before chiming in. This was a significant adjustment for me.” Priyanka shared that she had to learn to be more patient and allow others to finish speaking, even though she was familiar with American culture from her teen years spent in the US.
Despite Priyanka’s familiarity with American culture, the shift in communication styles was notable. Meanwhile, Nick, who hadn’t spent much time in India before marrying Priyanka, has since visited the country multiple times. He recently spent several weeks in India, joining in the celebration of Holi with Priyanka and her extended family.
Priyanka and Nick exchanged vows in 2018 and welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, in 2022.
